Trulieve TruFlower Review: Pink Cookies (AKA Wedding Cake – Hybrid)

I remember in the early days of this site – late 2018 and early 2019 – when I could keep up with every single new strain that came out in Northwest Florida. We would only see a new strain drop (usually from Trulieve at that time) every few months or so.

In 2021, after much evolution in the industry, I am unable to keep up with all the new strains from any single dispensary – let alone the entire industry of Northwest Florida. This is a great development for patients (and maybe less so for the comprehensive nature of my flower reviews.)

Pink Cookies is another name for the widely popular Wedding Cake strain, and it is one of a slew of new flower strains that Trulieve has released in the first few months of 2021. Pink Cookies/Wedding Cake is the basis for many of the “Cake” lineage of strains, including Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Grape Cake, and Ice Cream Cake, to name a few.

This Trulieve strain has received many positive reviews on social media, so I did not hesitate to pick up an eighth as soon as I saw it available at my location. I’m glad I did, as my overall opinion seems to concur with what I read about this strain online. (Spoiler: It’s good.)

Appearance/Cure

This batch of Pink Cookies has been grown extremely well, and I feel that the eighth I got is a great “test specimen” to be able to review such a staple strain – Wedding Cake seems to be this era’s GSC in terms of its popularity and widespread use in many popular “Cake” crosses.

Speaking of the GSC parent, it appears this phenotype shows that lineage in the dark green, almost-black flecks throughout the buds, which is a feature that is also commonly found on GSC flower. There are also several areas of purple – and yes, pink – hues as well.

The density, amber/gold color, and size/length of the trichomes suggest that this plant was allowed to mature pretty well before harvest. Evidence also points to a good cure in the form of dense, sticky flower that grinds down to a fluffy consistency.

This is another example of Trulieve really hitting all the marks and growing a strain to its potential. Hopefully, they can keep this quality consistent throughout 2021 and beyond.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 9.00/10.00

Smell/Taste

In the jar, Pink Cookies has a smell best described as sweet and hashy, with hints of pepper, earth, and a slight hint of cherry. By my experience with the GSC parent and what I can only guess the Cherry Pie strain to smell like based on its lineage, it seems that Pink Cookies/Wedding Cake is a good mix of its parents in this category.

When broken apart or ground up, the buds release a sweet and sour funk, with a pungent fuel rounding out the smell profile. This is somewhat surprising, given the relatively sweet nature of the smell in the jar.

When smoked, Pink Cookies has a sweet and hashy cake taste on the inhale, and a taste of spicy fuel on the exhale.

Smell/Taste Rating: 8.40/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Pink Cookies has many popular strains in its parent lineage, including Grandaddy Purple, GSC, Durban Poison, OG Kush, and Chemdog.

I say this to preface the fact that I feel elements of all these strains (many of which are crosses of one another) in the effects profile of Pink Cookies.

The first effect I notice each time I medicate with this strain is a strong and energetic cerebral invigoration, similar to what I experience when I medicate with Durban Poison. For this reason, new patients and those with a low tolerance should use the old adage of “start low and go slow” when first trying this strain.

As the effects progress, a full-body relaxation becomes the dominant effect, along with increased appetite in my experience. I’ve found these same effects with the GDP ancestor strain as well. In higher doses, Pink Cookies has the ability to make me sleepy.

Due to its wide spectrum of effects, I feel that Pink Cookies/Wedding Cake could be used at almost any time of the day; however, perhaps it is best used in lighter doses early in the day, and heavier doses in the evening. It fits the true definition of “hybrid” in the most complete sense.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Appetite stimulation
  • Insomnia (if used several hours before bedtime)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.40/10.00

Overall Rating: 8.60/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Pink Cookies as an “excellent and noteworthy” hybrid strain from Trulieve.

Hopefully, Trulieve keeps this strain around, as I believe it has potential to be a patient favorite from them. I also welcome the expansion of Trulieve’s genetics, and will continue to purchase and review new strains for you here on FLMCC.net as they become available in my area.

2021 is looking to be another great year for the Florida medical cannabis industry, and I look forward to navigating another year together with all of you. Thanks so much for your continued support of FLMCC!
