MAC 1, or Miracle Alien Cookies, is a well-known strain that has gained a lot of traction in the past few years, with mostly positive reviews on Florida medical cannabis social media. I’ve tried and reviewed it once in the past, first trying it in late 2020 from Vidacann (review here).

Trying strains that I’ve previously reviewed from another dispensary are some of my favorite reviews to write. Mainly, I look for consistency. Especially with Florida being a medical cannabis state, we should be able to trust that “Strain X” at Dispensary A is going to be reasonably close to being the same as Strain X at Dispensary B, C, and so-forth.

Of course, there will be variations in a strain, even in different batches from the same dispensary, due to there being different phenotypes, etc. As long as the strain’s “essence” remains the same, I personally consider that as a success.

Fortunately, MAC 1 passes the test. After trying it from Vidacann and now Sunnyside, I have found it to be consistent in all areas, with the main difference being the quality of the growing, curing, and preparation of the flower.

Appearance/Cure

MAC 1 has always been aesthetically pleasing when I’ve gotten it, and this Sunnyside eighth continues the trend, as you can see in the images above. Trichome crystal coverage is abundant, giving the flower a fuzzy appearance. The flower itself is actually lighter in person that these images show, and has an almost lime green color, with purple accents inside and on the bottom of the buds.

These buds have been grown well, and the two pictured above are dense, weighing over 3.5 grams on their own. The flower is slightly dry on the outside, but is very sticky and not at all dry on the inside. It passes the “stick to the fingers” test easily.

The buds also have milky and golden trichomes and all indications that the grow and harvest times were on point.

Really, other than the very outside of the buds being dry, there isn’t much negative to say about this eighth of MAC 1. It is excellent. Compared to the batch I got from VidaCann in 2020, I would say Sunnyside did it a bit better in 2022.

Smell/Taste

MAC 1 has a unique and identifiable smell, and Sunnyside’s smells almost identical to VidaCann’s, but perhaps a bit stronger.

All the times I’ve gotten this strain, the smell in the jar is just moderate in pungency – I’ve always said a “5” on a 1 to 10 scale, with 1 being “hay”, or next to nothing, and 10 being the most pungent smell. It is musky with slight hints of fruit and hash.

Breaking open the flower brings us up closer to “10”. The smells all become equally intense and dominant: there’s cookie, fruity, hashy, and gasoline smells that all come out strong.

When smoked, I taste subtle sweet cookies on the inhale, and a spicy, earthy smoke taste on the exhale. The taste is one area where I enjoyed the VidaCann MAC 1 better.

All things considered and balanced, I give Sunnyside’s MAC 1 the exact same score as VidaCann’s in this category.

Effects/Medical Use

Sunnyside has listed this batch of MAC 1 as an “indica” strain. I have read on social media that the reason for this is that Sunnyside evaluates the terpenes in each batch of flower, and decides then if it should be sativa, hybrid or indica. I respect the approach, but I feel that this MAC 1 is still a hybrid strain, but it does lean more indica in effects. These effects are almost, if not exactly identical to the effects I experienced from VidaCann’s MAC 1.

Initially, the cerebral effects hit pretty hard. The perception/head change from the first hit is significant for me, and CAN be almost uncomfortably introspective at first. However, this soon wears off into a more comfortable and relaxed headspace. I’ve said before that MAC 1 has what I call “classic cannabis effects”, and that remains true – it is strong with the psychoactive shift, and fades into the well-known “hungry, happy, sleepy” effects after 30-45 minutes.

I enjoy using MAC 1 the most when I have leisure time with no pending obligations. I do think that with proper dosage, this can be an “any time of the day” strain, but my preferred time to use it is late afternoon to bedtime. Higher doses do have a more sedative effect that makes sleep seem to come on easier.

Possibly good for treating:

• Moderate aches and pains
• Lack of appetite
• Minor nausea/gastrointestinal issues
• General Relaxation 
• Depression
• Anxiety (In lower doses)

• Insomnia (In higher doses)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Overall Rating: 9.03/10.00

Overall, I would best describe MAC 1 as an “excellent, standout” indica strain from Sunnyside.

In this case, MAC 1 has been consistent between 2 different Florida dispensaries, with Sunnyside 2022 having a slightly better batch than VidaCann 2020. I will be looking to try MUV’s version as soon as I catch it in stock, to see how it compares to the others.
