Hey everyone! It’s been quite a while since I’ve updated this site. In reality, I expected it would be completely dead after 14 months without an update, but I suppose some of these strains and products have stuck around, and folks have searched for reviews for them. To those of you out there who have continued to read FLMCC content, I appreciate you, and hope you are well!
I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from the site as there were other areas of life that needed more focus for a while. However, we are back to regular scheduled programming – so you can expect at least 2-4 reviews from this site each month.
Obviously, a lot has changed since my last review. Newer MMTCs have entered the market, and it seems like there are hundreds of flower strains and different products rotating at any given time now, which is a great thing. This site has always focused primarily on Florida Medical Marijuana flower reviews, and it will stay that way moving forward, with other products such as concentrates, carts, and edibles sprinkled here and there every once in a while.
Northwest Florida got a new MMTC in Sunnyside (formerly One Plant; formerly 3 Boys Farm) since I’ve been out, so I decided to take advantage of their sales and try a few different strains from them. For my first pickup I chose Gastro Pop, Chem-D, and Runtz. Reviews for all will be coming within the next week or so, starting with Runtz for this first new review.
There was a lop of hype for the Runtz strain the past couple of years, so much so that the strain was named Leafly’s “Strain of the Year” in 2020. I’ve been intrigued by this strain since hearing of it, but haven’t had it available around me until recently.

Appearance/Cure

Runtz is a visually appealing strain with many colors visible in it, ranging from medium green to dark purple. The buds are covered in amber-colored resinous trichomes, so it appears that Sunnyside did a pretty good job of showing this strain some justice.
Moisture content seems to be pretty on-point as well. The larger buds seem to snap apart pretty easily, but breaking it down further yields a really good moisture content and slight bit of stickiness.
This batch could have been improved with a bit more moisture content and stickiness, but it still comes in with a high score here.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.00/10.00
Smell/Taste
I was pretty excited to see what Runtz would smell and taste like, as I’ve seen many different anecdotes on various pages, Reddit, and other social media.
My immediate thought when opening the jar is that this cut reminds me a lot of GrowHealthy’s Wookie Girl flower. That sweet, sugary, almost licorice-like smell is definitely there, completed with nutty, cookie, earthy undertones. I also detect something akin to a grape Pixie Stick candy, and this smell becomes much stronger when the flower is ground up.
The taste is nearly identical to the smell, leaving a sweet and sugary aftertaste after the exhale. If I hadn’t already experienced Wookie Girl, I’d probably be raving about Runtz’s smell and taste a lot more. It is good, but it seems so similar to something I’ve already experienced. In any case, the smell and taste are nice!
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.50/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
I found Runtz to be cerebral-dominant for the first part of the effects duration. This seemed like a particularly introspective strain for me – not quite uncomfortable in that regard, but almost, especially with my lower tolerance these days.
After 30-45 minutes, the strong mental effects ease into a more calming full-body relaxation that feels like a true hybrid. Typical relaxing activities were enjoyable: video games, TV, simply lounging around, etc.
Runtz could really be an “anytime” strain, but I personally won’t use it at bedtime due to the strong cerebral invigoration I get from it. As always, your mileage may vary.
Possibly good for treating:
- Depression
- Mild aches and pains
- Mild nausea/gastrointestinal issues
- General Relaxation
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.
Effects Rating: 6.00/10.00
Overall Rating: 6.83/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Runtz as a “good” hybrid strain from Sunnyside.
For the hype surrounding this strain, it seemed pretty mundane to me, but by no means was it bad.
In the year that I’ve been gone, the strain options in Florida seem to have exploded. I remember back in 2018, 2019, and even early 2020 when I seemed to be able to keep up with almost all of the new strains and review them. That isn’t the reality going forward (which is a great thing – more options is better!), but I will still continue to regularly sample new strains and review them here.
Hope you enjoyed the first new review in over a year. More reviews are coming soon! Be well, healthy, wealthy, and happy!
