Trulieve x Sunshine Cannabis TruFlower Review: Blue Sunshine (Hybrid)

Trulieve and Sunshine Cannabis have been partnered for quite some time now. They first released flower strains from their collaboration back in April of 2020, with nearly a dozen new strains dropping at that time – the biggest expansion of strains that Trulieve had seen to date. Blue Sunshine was one of those first strains in the collaboration, and it seems to have gotten mostly positive reviews on social media.

Quick Facts:

Blue Sunshine

Price at time of review: $48/eighth

Lineage: Blue Dream x Sunshine Daydream

Batch/Harvest Number: 18342_0000366947

THC: 21.861%

CBD: 0.039%

Lab Report

Unfortunately, the lab report for this batch is not available at this time. I will update this section if/when the batch is uploaded.

Appearance/Cure

I found this batch of Blue Sunshine to be a pretty good-looking eighth of flower. The appearance seems to take a lot from its Blue Dream parent with the colors.

There are plenty of trichomes on this flower, and most of them seem to be at least somewhat golden/amber in color, though I still get the gut feeling that this batch could have waited a little longer before harvest.

The main negative in this category was the moisture content: the flower was dry and needed an Integra boost pack to “bring it to life”, and even then, it felt brittle – but better. There also seemed to be very little stickiness, especially for how many trichomes are visible on the flower.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 5.90/10.00

Smell/Taste

For my experience, this category is where Blue Sunshine was the weakest. I found almost no smell in this eighth after pickup. Even after a couple of weeks in the jar with the boost pack, the small was faint and hard to find.

What smell is there seems to be mostly pine and earthy spice, with the faintest hint of blueberry. The smell does not seem to get much, if any stronger when broken apart and ground up.

When smoked, the taste isn’t too bad – just a smooth muskiness on both the inhale and exhale. I definitely prefer other strains in the Sunshine Cannabis lineup for this category.

Smell/Taste Rating: 2.50/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Blue Sunshine feels a lot like Fluent’s version of its Blue Dream parent linked above in the “lineage” section: very “middle of the road” and almost exactly 50/50 hybrid effects.

There isn’t too much of a cerebral rush, or heavy sedation. Blue Sunshine manages to lightly toe the line between both ends of the cannabis effects spectrum, resulting in a strain that can be used at almost any time of the day.

I don’t find the effects particularly noteworthy in any sense, but they aren’t bad – just very mellow. This seems like a good strain for when you don’t have anything in particularly to do; it seems like a good strain to just kick back and “exist” with.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Mild Depression and related anxiety
  • Good for general relaxation
  • Relief of minor aches and pains
  • Relief of minor nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 5.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 4.46/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Blue Sunshine as a “below average” hybrid strain from Trulieve and Sunshine Cannabis.

Like I said before: reviews online have trended positive, so may be I got a bad batch – or maybe Blue Sunshine just isn’t the strain for me.

I look forward to continuing to try as many new strains as possible, and reviewing all of them for you here at FLMCC.net. It’s been a fun 2.5 years so far, and I look forward to many more with all of you. Thanks for your continued support of FLMCC!

Why areTHC % levels not listed here? You leave a big string of numbers where THC level is normally listed and don’t take picture of side of bottle with THC % listed. Thanks

    1. Had a long day and was tired while typing this out. Human error. Will fix!

Edit: Fixed. By the way, the long number is the batch number! You can normally go to Trulieve’s lab report website and use that number to find the report for every batch of flower you get, but they didn’t have that particular batched uploaded for some reason.
