Trulieve “Cultivar Collection” Flower Review: Hippie Crasher (Indica)

Trulieve launched their “Cultivar Collection” premium flower line back in October 2020. At the increased cost of $58/eighth, Trulieve attests that patients can expect overall higher quality flower: a better grow, a better cure, a better smell, taste, and effects.

This is what their press release in late 2020 stated:

The Cultivar Collection represents an intimate elevation of the cannabis we grow. Over the past few years, we have created and designed specialized new facilities that would allow us to have a more nuanced and hands on approach when it comes to our high-quality TruFlower. After intensive pheno hunting, our Master Growers chose select cultivars from our extensive genetic catalogue.

Our cultivators have devoted more personal, hands on care for each individual plant. At every point in the lifecycle there is an essential and direct human element ensuring the Cultivar Collection meets and e)xceeds the highest possible standards. All of the premium strains in The Cultivar Collection are a mix of hand and light machine trimming, all designed to showcase the natural structure, personality, and specially curated elements of the flower.

I’ve tried a few other Cultivar Collection strains so far: Grape Cake, Sunset Sherbert x Kush Mints, and PCB x Animal Cookies, and Ghost Train Haze. Hippie Crasher is one of the early strains from the line, and I was especially interested in the Wedding Cake lineage here.

Lab Report

Appearance/Cure

Hippie Crasher is a nice looking strain, with light greens and golds complemented by an abundance of trichomes caking the flower. Unlike some recent batches of flower I’ve picked up, this eighth actually has some moderately sticky bud inside.

The trichomes are numerous as stated above, but they do look a little premature. For the Cultivar Collection line to be marketed as one that has special attention devoted to the cure, it seems like this eighth was not much different in quality when compared to other flower from Trulieve.

I also found the bud to be a bit on the dry side, though a week with an Integra boost pack helped remedy this.

The flower is not bad by any means, but with the premium price tag, I feel it should be a noticeable level of quality higher.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 5.90/10.00

Smell/Taste

Hippie Crasher has a smell like many of the other Cake varieties; this particular cultivar has a smell of vanilla cake, hash, pepper, and a slight hint of fuel. The smell was pretty faint when I first got the jar, but a week with the Integra boost pack helped with this as well.

When broken down, the vanilla, hash, and fuel smells all become more noticeable.

The taste when smoked is sweet cake, with more cake and a hint of peppery spice on the exhale.

Overall, this is a good smelling and tasting strain – but it should have been that way right out of the jar. 🙂

Smell/Taste Rating: 6.90/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Hippie Crasher feels more like a hybrid or “lighter” indica strain to me. The effects are predominantly cerebral, though a moderate amount of body relaxation and the “warm body” sensation are present as well.

Hippie Crasher reminds me of its Wedding Cake (a.k.a. Pink Cookies) parent in its effects, though it doesn’t fade out into heavy sedation the same way. Regardless, it still manages to be quite a relaxing strain.

I’d recommend this strain for almost any time of the day, though you might want to keep the doses light early, or if you have a lot to get done.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Appetite stimulation
  • Insomnia (if used several hours before bedtime)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 7.40/10.00

Overall Rating: 6.73/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Hippie Crasher as a “good” indica strain from Trulieve.

I found this to be an enjoyable strain, and am happy to see Trulieve continue to greatly expand their genetic library of flower.
