VidaCann Flower Review: Tropicanna Haze (Sativa)

Hello everyone! I’m finally back with a new review after taking a little less than a month hiatus from writing new content for this site. Life is all ebb and flow, and my career and other areas of my life have demanded much more attention than usual lately. Rest assured, however, that FLMCC is not going to stop – and I appreciate all of you and the patience and understanding that you have displayed in the times that new content becomes less frequent. With that said, we have new reviews coming, of which this is the first in that series.

VidaCann has nearly doubled their flower strain inventory in the past 6 months or so, with new strains including Gelato #33, MAC 1, Super Lemon Haze, Durban Poison, Margalope, and Tropicanna Haze.

Tropicanna Haze is a relatively newer strain that doesn’t seem to have a lot of relevant information available online just yet – so in that spirit, may this review be a step toward changing that.

Quick Facts:

Tropicanna Haze (Sativa)

Price at time of review: $50/eighth (Tier 1)

Lineage: Skunk Valley Haze x Tropicanna Cookies

THC: 20.98%

CBD: 0.00%

CBG: 0.58%

Total Cannabinoids: 21.56%

Total Terpenes: 1.32% (Kudos to VidaCann and RiSE for including this information on the labels!)

Terpene breakdown and percentages coming soon – check back periodically for updates!

Compared to other recent batches I’ve gotten from VidaCann, I was disappointed in the final result of this eighth of Tropicanna Haze. The strain sounds like it would be extremely promising given the genetics, but what I found in my eighth was dry, almost “dead” or stale flower. Even after 14 days with an Integra 62% humidity pack, the flower is still on the dry side, though the pack did help quite a bit.

It also looks like this batch may have been a little rushed at some point in the grow and/or cure. The largest bud did have some nice amber trichomes on it, while the rest (though numerous) are short and clear-colored. You can actually see this to an extent in the images above.

Every MMTC is going to have weaker batches, especially when trying new strains. I saw a subsequent batch at 28% THC getting positive reviews, so don’t let my experience be of any deterrent if you are wanting to try this strain. Also, this is only one category!

Appearance/Cure Rating: 5.00/10.00

As a result of the aforementioned issues with the cure, I found the smell to be extremely weak right out of the jar. The Integra pack helped in this area as well, and after a couple of weeks, I can finally get a sense of what Tropicanna Haze is supposed to smell like.

In the jar, I find there to be a mostly spicy and fruity smell. The fruit is a faint hint of some combination of orange and lemon, with a hint of skunk to complete the profile.

When I broke open the largest bud in my eighth, I really enjoyed the smell I found: a mix of strong, sweet and sour orange and lemon, with a hint of both cookies and skunk in the background.

The taste when smoked is mostly spicy.

I think Tropicanna Haze has the potential to be really enjoyable in this category, and perhaps some of the more recent batches from VidaCann will reflect that. I’m glad that the Integra pack was able to bring my eighth back to life to some extent, as it helped a lot with being able to properly review this strain in the smell/taste category.

Smell/Taste Rating: 6.00/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Tropicanna Haze has strong, hazy sativa effects that are particularly psychoactive.

I don’t find it to be a particularly motivating strain, but ironically, it seems to have a strong focusing aspect to its effects. While not racy or speedy, it is almost psychedelic in nature, which is why I say I find the effects to be “hazy”. Perception seems to be altered significantly, making this a good strain for introspective and/or creative activities.

Patients who experience anxiety from strong “sativa”/psychoactive strains should use the old mantra of “start low and go slow” when first trying this strain, if your experiences tend to line up with mine in other reviews. I would mostly recommend this as a daytime strain, and find it better for leisurely activities than productive ones.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Lack of energy
  • Minor headaches
  • Good for introspection
  • May help spark creativity
  • Good for focus (but not motivation)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 7.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 6.00/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Tropicanna Haze as a “fairly good” sativa strain from VidaCann.

VidaCann continues to be a dispensary of interest to me as they churn out new flower genetics. Though this Tropicanna Haze was a comparatively weaker batch from them, I will continue to sample their new strains. On that note, I have a Margalope flower review coming soon as well!

As always, thank you for reading, and here’s hoping that you have a great 2021!
