VidaCann recently announced the addition of several new strains to their lineup: Durban Poison, Super Lemon Haze, MAC 1, and Gelato 33.
Gelato 33 is a well-known strain in the cannabis world. Phenotype 33 is also known as the “Larry Bird” cut, and is one of the parents of the famous Ice Cream Cake strain.
While VidaCann struggled with their flower quality from late 2019 throughout 2020, their new strains and recent batches of their older strains have been much better quality. This particular batch of Gelato 33 happens to be the best flower I’ve ever gotten from VidaCann.

Appearance/Cure

Gelato 33 is known for its sometimes striking colors, which can range from dark green to deep purple. The batch I got expresses the best of both worlds, and is some pretty stunning flower. The contrast of the dark colors with the golden/amber trichomes helps show that this plant was given more time to mature than some batches of flower I’ve seen before; the evidence is in the longer, more full, and amber to golden-color trichomes – vs. short, sparse, thin, clear trichomes that often indicate a plant was harvested too early.
This is also the most dense flower I’ve picked up from VidaCann. It’s almost difficult to break apart, but a grinder handles it with little effort. It’s moderately sticky, and the moisture content seems to be almost perfect as well. it grinds down into a nice, sticky and fluffy consistency.
I’m really impressed with how this flower turned out; hopefully it is a sign for things to come from VidaCann in 2021 and beyond!

Smell/Taste
In the jar, Gelato 33 has a sweet, hashy, piney, skunky smell – with just a hint of fruity citrus. While most strains I’ve gotten from VidaCann in the past had a good smell when ground up, they tended to be weak in the jar. That isn’t the case with this batch of Gelato 33.
However, the smell really kicks up a few notches if even a piece of the flower is broken apart, and much more so if a decent amount is ground up. Straight gassy, skunky, funky fuel comes out – a stronger fuel smell than I have found from most medicinal strains in Florida. The gassy smell is complemented with sweet cake, hash, pine, and hints of citrus and some sort of nutty scent.
The taste of Gelato 33 when smoked is notably excellent: a very pronounced sweet taste of cake and hash, with a sweet pine on the exhale. The sugary cake taste seems to linger longer than the taste of most strains does.
Again, I hope VidaCann keeps this quality coming for the rest of this year and beyond.
Smell/Taste Rating: 8.50/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
Gelato 33 is a fairly balanced hybrid, but it leans slightly “indica”, with the body effects being just a bit more pronounced than the cerebral effects.
Immediately after smoking, there is a pronounced cerebral/introspective rush. This soon dissolves into a dreamy, hazy mindspace. Body effects start creeping in not long after, enveloping the body in a “warm blanket” sensation. I do not find Gelato 33 particularly sedating; in fact, it is quite versatile, and could be used at almost any time of the day.
On the other hand, I don’t find this to be a motivating or energizing strain, either. It’s got good “middle of the road” cannabis effects, and while it isn’t crazy or outstanding, Gelato 33 is very enjoyable – “cozy” is the word that comes to mind to summarize its effects.
Possibly good for treating:
- Anxiety
- Mild to Moderate aches and pains
- Minor nausea/gastrointestinal issues
- General Relaxation
- Depression
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.
Effects Rating: 8.40/10.00
Overall Rating: 8.50/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Gelato 33 as an “excellent” hybrid strain from VidaCann.
With my experiences with this strain, their MAC 1, and their Super Lemon Haze, I do believe VidaCann has dialed in to a higher quality flower operation this year. I’ll be trying more of their strains and reviewing them in the near future, so stay tuned to FLMCC.net for all the latest Florida medical cannabis updates as we continue through 2021!
