One year ago today, I wrote FLMCC’s first review for Tikun Olam flower in Florida. Their Eran Almog flower had just dropped, finally bringing the award-winning Tikun Olam brand to Florida in flower form.
For readers who aren’t yet aware, Tikun Olam is a highly regarded medicinal cannabis company that originated in Israel. Since Israel has had legal medical cannabis since the early 1990s, Tikun Olam has had plenty of time to research and refine their proprietary strains.
Tikun Olam vape carts and tinctures have been available at VidaCann almost since the beginning (2018-2019), and they have generally received positive to rave reviews about their quality, namely the true and “clean” medical effects that they offer. Flower was first teased in early Summer 2019, and for a while, the word was that VidaCann was to release Tikun Olam prerolls by the end of July 2019. That never came to fruition, leaving patients to only anticipate the release of Tikun Olam flower more and more through time. Finally, Eran Almog flower dropped in January 2020, followed by the Alaska and Erez strains. (Erez flower review coming soon!)
Midnight has been the latest Tikun Olam strain to join VidaCann’s lineup as of January 2021. It is a 1:1 CBD:THC ratio strain. I’ve tried it before in vape cart form (review here), and generally enjoyed it.

Appearance/Cure

While Tikun Olam is known for the medicinal quality of its strains, and not the aesthetics or “bag appeal”, Midnight is probably the most unimpressive looking flower I’ve ever gotten from VidaCann. The overall structure looks like hemp flower, which may simply be part of the genetics, given that Midnight seems to be slightly CBD-dominant. However, the trim on this batch was particularly bad; coupled with the loose bud structure, the flower feels low-quality. This batch is also pretty dry, but it does have a slight stickiness to it.
I’ve seen better flower from VidaCann, and while I acknowledge that much of the appearance of this strain may be due to its genetics, the reality is that it could have been grown, cured, and prepared better in just about every aspect. I’ve seen really good flower from VidaCann’s newest batches, so I know they can do it!
Appearance/Cure Rating: 4.90/10.00
Smell/Taste
In the jar, Midnight has a mild to moderate pungency. There is a musky, pseudo-skunk aroma immediately present. This is complemented by herbal, earthy, floral, and even cheesy notes.
When the flower is broken apart and ground up, it takes on a more zesty, sweet, fruity, and citrus-y smell. I find Midnight unique in the many different types of terpenes and smells it seems to contain.
When smoked, I find that Midnight tastes mostly musky, floral and herbal, with perhaps a hint of citrus on the exhale. It’s not necessarily outstanding in the smell & taste category, but is enjoyable nonetheless.
Smell/Taste Rating: 5.00/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
As with most CBD-dominant strains, the psychoactive properties of Midnight are muted when compared to other high-THC strains. Don’t let this fool you, though – the nearly 9% THC that this strain has is enough to pack a punch.
Since I medicate primarily to treat depression and PTSD, I usually need THC-dominant strains to get the threshold of effects that I’m looking for. On its own, Midnight is good for taking off the edge and soothing my worst anxiety, but it just doesn’t quite do the full job on the days when my symptoms are at their worst. This isn’t exclusive to Midnight; I find this to be the case with almost all CBD-dominant products.
What I really enjoy using these type of strains for, though, is to supplement the high-THC products that I use. Most of you have heard of the “entourage effect” by now if you’ve been a medicinal cannabis patient for any length of time; it’s the idea that cannabinoids like THC and CBD work better together than they do when they’re isolated. I find this to be exactly what happens if I used Midnight simultaneously with a high-THC strain; the effects are much more “full”, and all-encompassing for both the mind and the body. In short, it leads to a more rich and effective experience with symptom relief.
With sativa strains, Midnight helps me zone in to whatever task I’m doing, while taking the edge off any speedy or racy effects that come with sativas. With indica strains, I find that it deepens the relaxing and sedative properties of those strains.
Ratio strains like midnight, in my opinion, are a good staple for almost any medical cannabis patient’s inventory. They generally seem to enhance the medicinal benefits of almost any given strain.
Possibly good for treating:
- Mild depression and related anxiety
- Good for general relaxation
- Relief of minor to moderate aches and pains
- Relief of minor to moderate nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort
- Research the specific effects of CBD – antibacterial, etc.
- May enhance the medicinal benefits of other cannabis products
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.
Effects Rating: 6.40/10.00
Overall Rating: 5.43/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Midnight as a “pretty good” medicinal strain from VidaCann and Tikun Olam.
Patients who have high expectations for “bag appeal”, aesthetics, and/or smell & taste may not be impressed with this strain after forking out $55 for the eighth. The true strength of Midnight, like most other Tikun Olam strains, is in its medicinal properties.
As it stands right now, I think Tikun Olam has some of the most effective and truly medicinal products offered in Florida. I look forward to seeing more releases from them in the near future, and will certainly be trying them and reviewing them as they come.
