Trulieve and Sunshine Cannabis have been partnered for quite some time now. You may have tried one of their TruPod distillate vape cart strains, which include custom strains like Sunshine Kush and Afghan Moon, to name a couple.
In early 2020, Sunshine Cannabis released their new line of Sunshine Cannabis TruFlower. At the time, I was able to sample the Crown Chakra and Myrcene Queen strains, and enjoyed them thoroughly. Since then, there have been “spotty”, randomized drops of one or two Sunshine strains at my locations every couple of months, or sometimes more frequently.
Triangle Kush is a Florida strain named for the “Emerald Triangle” (Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami), and is said to have descended from the original OG Kush, which also originated in Florida.
I really found that I enjoyed it when I tried MUV’s cut of Triangle Kush (review here.) It provided the “classic” cannabis effects for me: hungry, happy, and slightly sleepy.
If I really enjoy a strain, I usually will always try every single MMTC’s version of it, if available. I like to compare the consistency of a strain from dispensary to dispensary, because I think it’s important for us as medical patients to know if “Blue Dream” at one dispensary will provide the same effects as another dispensary’s version of the same strain. For all of you reading who are new to the medical cannabis world, my general rule of thumb is to assume the strain will be entirely different when trying it at a different dispensary. This is purely based on odds, the many different phenotypes of each strain, and different methods and conditions at each MMTC’s grow op.
In short: I expected Trulieve’s “Triangle Kush” to be totally different than MUV’s “Triangle Kush” that I tried recently, and this is always my outlook when trying the same strain at different dispensaries. Though I have been pleasantly surprised to find the strains nearly identical from dispensary to dispensary in a few instances, I believe it serves us better as patients to go ahead and expect there to be at least a couple of differences – if nothing else so that we won’t be disappointed at the outcome.

Trulieve and Sunshine Cannabis’ websites each offer this description of Triangle Kush:

Appearance/Cure

Trulieve did a really nice job growing this batch of Triangle Kush. One of the first things I noticed was the milky, golden color of the trichomes – indicating that a little more time and care was given toward letting this plant grow and cure. Of course, I will always say there’s room for improvement – and I do believe that these trichomes could have been allowed to mature even more than they were – but this really is good quality, and I am happy to see trichomes with color as opposed to the clear ones we’ve seen throughout the industry in the past (and still a bit in the present.)
The moisture content of this eighth was nearly perfect, and just 24 hours with an Integra 62% two-way humidity pack brought it to perfection. The flowers are dense, and hard to break apart, with a bit of stickiness – though not as much as I’d expect from this strain.
The trim on this eighth was nearly perfect as well; I only found a couple of sugar leaves in my jar.
With a little more time to grow and cure, I believe this batch could have been near a “10” rating in this category.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.00/10.00
Smell/Taste
Like I mentioned in the introduction of this review, I like to let it be a pleasant surprise if two strains match up from dispensary to dispensary. That is mostly the case with Trulieve and MUV’s Triangle Kush – the two smell very similar, almost identical. MUV’s is slightly more pungent and skunky, but other than that, it smells like the exact same strain.
Triangle Kush has a lot of that “classic” OG skunky/musk and pine smell, which is all rounded out with equally present sweet and hash-y notes. With this particular batch, the smell does not seem to amplify when broken apart or ground up. If anything, I would say the smell is stronger in the jar – opposite of my usual experience with flower.
When smoked, the taste is both smooth and heavy with a skunky musk, all with a slightly spicy and sweet finish on the exhale.
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.00/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
Going on with the theme of comparison: While I found MUV’s Triangle Kush to feel more “hybrid” in effects, I find that Trulieve’s cut leans more “indica”.
This is a strain that makes its body effects known almost immediately after the first inhalation. Around 5 to 10 minutes after the first hit, I instantly feel more relaxed, with that “sinking into the couch” sensation that many of us look for with our indica strains. This grows in magnitude throughout the duration of the effects, often leaving me feeling lazy and unproductive, and very sleepy if I take the strain in higher doses.
I find Trulieve’s Triangle Kush to be notably appetite-stimulating. Often, the food binges this strain induces end up leading to involuntary dozing off on the couch as I attempt to watch a TV show or movie. With all this being said, I’d absolutely say to reserve this strain for evening use – unless you have a full day that you intend to use for rest alone. There are some cerebral effects with this strain, as there are with any THC product – but the body relaxation is strongly dominant for me. (You may react differently, of course.)
Trulieve’s Triangle Kush has the “classic” cannabis effects we are well-familiar with: hungry, happy, and sleepy.
Possibly good for treating:
- Good for relaxation
- Relief of moderate skeletal/muscular aches and pains
- Relief of minor to moderate nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort
- Insomnia
- Lack of appetite
- Anxiety
- Headaches
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.
Effects Rating: 8.00/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.33/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Triangle Kush as a “good” indica strain from Trulieve and Sunshine Cannabis.
Triangle Kush remains one of my favorite indica strains in Florida, after trying it from two different MMTCs now. I will certainly be looking for other versions of it to pop up this year, and will pick it up and review it for you all once I find it. Stay tuned to FLMCC throughout 2021 for reviews on all the newest strains to come – and for updates as our medical cannabis industry continues to grow and expand.
