Liberty Health Sciences recently made waves in Florida’s medical cannabis community for a release of a new premium flower line, partnered with Seed Junky Genetics. These eighths range from $45 to $55 depending on THC content; for reference, Liberty’s other full flower eighths are priced at $27 to $40.
It’s been a while since I’ve tried Liberty’s flower, but a combination of curiosity and good reviews led to my buying an eighth of Banana Cream Cake. I will be the first to admit that I’m glad I did; the quality of Liberty’s flower is one or two orders of magnitude better than it was a year ago. In fact, I’d put this eighth of Banana Cream Cake against almost anything in the Northwest Panhandle market right now.

As you can see in the images above, this is not 2019’s LHS flower – at all. (For reference, here’s a review with images of their Bio Diesel from November 2019.)
Partnering with Seed Junky has made a huge difference in this flower. It’s dense, perfectly trimmed, and covered in mature-looking golden trichomes. There’s a rainbow of beautiful colors, from dark purple (almost black) to light green, medium green, dark green, and orange pistils. It looks fantastic.
The one small issue here was the dryness of the flower, but like I’ve said in the past, I’m not as critical of this aspect given the history of mold reports in Florida medical cannabis – from all MMTCs at this point. Also, a couple of days with an Integra moisture pack helped some of this, and brought more of the smell out.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.80/10.00
This eighth of Banana Cream Cake is easily the best smelling flower I’ve gotten from Liberty – no more “grassy” smell or “hay” smell in this eighth.
The smell was about a “5” on a 1-10 scale of pungency when I first got it. After a couple of days with the Integra pack, it’s a “6.5” in pungency.
Banana Cream Cake lives up to its namesake, with a strong smell of slightly ripened bananas being the first thing I notice after opening the container. After that, I smell equal parts musky/skunk and sweet cookies/cake. Breaking open the nugs reveals a very pleasant sour, slightly gassy/diesel aroma that I keep coming back to.
When smoked, I taste a more “green” banana taste, and a sweet cake finish. I’d say the taste is a bit milder than the smell, but it is still good.
This is a huge step forward for Liberty Health Sciences in this area – well done.
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.00/10.00
Though Banana Cream Cake is listed as an indica strain, I found the effects to feel more hybrid – even sativa-dominant hybrid, particularly in the beginning of the effects.
My tolerance is lower than normal lately, and I got a really strong introspective cerebral effect the first few times I tried this strain. It does become more relaxing around 30-45 minutes in, and ends up in a really nice, relaxed, cozy headspace. With more tolerance to this strain, it seemed to feel more hybrid and body-focused, but never sedating. I wouldn’t use this strain to treat insomnia, personally. It’s more like an “after work” hybrid strain to unwind and begin doing leisurely activity.
I saw some complaints online of the effects being short-lived, but I did not personally experience this. Banana Cream Cake effects lasted around the average for me – 2 hours, give or take 15 minutes (from one small hit.)
Again, this indicates a huge step forward of Liberty Health Science’s flower quality. I’m impressed with what they’ve been able to achieve out of the Seed Junky partnership.
Possibly good for treating:
- Minor to moderate aches and pains
- General relaxation/relief
- Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Minor issues with motivation
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.
Effects Rating: 6.50/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.43/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Banana Cream Cake as a “very good” indica strain from Liberty Health Sciences.
This eighth has ensured that I will be back to try other strains in the near future – I’m particularly interested in the Colombian Gold and Purple Urkle strains I’ve seen available in the recent past. I feel that the $37.50 price I paid for this is more than fair given the quality. I would certainly buy this again in the future if it were priced at $40 – not so sure about $55. Fortunately, there have been frequent sales for the holidays as of late.
I look forward to revisiting Liberty Health Sciences and their newly improved flower to review in the near future.
