Trulieve released their new “Cultivar Collection” on October 17, 2020, with 3 new strains available statewide at that time: Sunset Sherbet x Kush Mints, Grape Cake, and Rae Bae.
Trulieve offered the following statement about Cultivar Collection in a press release:
The Cultivar Collection represents an intimate elevation of the cannabis we grow. Over the past few years, we have created and designed specialized new facilities that would allow us to have a more nuanced and hands on approach when it comes to our high-quality TruFlower. After intensive pheno hunting, our Master Growers chose select cultivars from our extensive genetic catalogue.
Our cultivators have devoted more personal, hands on care for each individual plant. At every point in the lifecycle there is an essential and direct human element ensuring the Cultivar Collection meets and e)xceeds the highest possible standards. All of the premium strains in The Cultivar Collection are a mix of hand and light machine trimming, all designed to showcase the natural structure, personality, and specially curated elements of the flower.
Trulieve
Today (11.21.2020), Trulieve introduced a 4th strain to the Cultivar Collection: Pure Cake Breath (PCB) x Animal Cookies. There is next to no information available about this strain online, but it seems to be cultivated by Seed Junky Genetics.
This is one of those strains that makes me realize we are moving along in Florida’s medical cannabis industry. What seems like yesterday (in reality 2 years ago), most Trulieve flower strains were more “common”, established genetics: Sour Diesel, Jack Herer, 9lb Hammer, etc. A strain like PCB x Animal Cookies is a much more recent genetic achievement, and speaks to the progress of our medical cannabis program. I look forward to the introduction of more of these advanced/modern genetics as time passes.

Appearance/Cure

This eighth of PCB x Animal Cookies continues to meet the high standards set by Trulieve’s Cultivar Collection in terms of grow and aesthetics. These nugs are particularly sticky and dense, and break down into that “fluffy” consistency that tends to indicate well-grown flower, in my experience.
The two small negatives here are the bud size (I had two medium-size buds and a bunch of minis), and the fact that the trim missed a few leaves.
All things considered, this is a very well-grown batch of flower, and I love the notably sticky quality to it.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.90/10.00
Smell/Taste
In the jar, PCB x Animal Cookies has that sort of “delicate”, sweet, piney, hashy, light diesel smell. Without handling or breaking the flower apart, it is mildly pungent. The smell is noticeable, but it may take a little time with the jar left open for it to smell up the room.
Breaking the flower apart, or grinding it up, yields a different experience. I am greeted with a bouquet of various pungent smells: sweet hash, diesel, garlic, and pine. There’s a little bit of an underlying “peppery potpourri” scent going on as well.
The taste is equally complex and enjoyable when the flower is smoked. I detect the rich, garlicky diesel and hash on the inhale. On the exhale, I find a profound taste of sweet hash and vanilla cake batter.
Genetics like this are so interesting to experience, and this is one of the most full and interesting taste profiles I’ve come across in some time (along with MUV’s Slurricane, which I will be reviewing soon as well.)
If you like modern genetics and complex aromas/tastes, PCB x Animal Cookies is likely a good choice.
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.75/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
Testing at 29% THC, this is among the higher end of the spectrum for THC content in Florida medical cannabis flower, and I certainly felt it on the first hit I took, which sent me into a coughing fit – something that doesn’t necessarily happen all the time.
Each hit of PCB x Animal Cookies brings an initial cerebral “sativa” rush that I feel most behind the eyes and in the forehead. I feel mentally “cozy” medicating with this strain, and the euphoria it produces works well to combat my depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
As time goes on, the “warm, cozy blanket” feelings begin to take over. I don’t find this to be an extremely sedating strain, but the relaxation does trend into the heavier end of the spectrum for me as time goes on.
This seems to be a versatile indica, not nearly as heavy and sedating as the previous Cultivar Collection strain I tried: Sunset Sherbert x Kush Mints. In lighter doses, this could possibly even be a good strain for any time of day. However, in heavier doses, I recommend having a comfortable seat handy.
Possibly good for treating:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Minor to moderate aches and pains
- General relaxation/relief
- Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Appetite stimulation
- Insomnia (if used several hours before bedtime)
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.
Effects Rating: 8.20/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.95/10.00
Overall, I would best describe PCB x Animal Cookies as an “excellent” indica strain from Trulieve.
My second impression of the “Cultivar Collection” is great – I will certainly be back to try other strains in this lineup in the future. I also have an eighth of Grape Cake, which I will be reviewing and posting here soon.
I hope this review was useful to you all – stay tuned for all the latest strain reviews from Trulieve and other MMTCs!
