MÜV Flower Review: Ice Cream Cake x Gelato (Hybrid)

MÜV has really been firing off what seems like a multitude of new strains lately, many with genetics that can’t be found at any other Florida dispensary. To that point, they’ve even engaged in a partnership with Strainprint, where patients can track their experiences with all the new strains in exchange for product discounts at MÜV.

Ice Cream Cake and Gelato are both strains that have gained popularity in the early 21st century, and both have complex terpene/flavor profiles, owing to much of their fame. When I saw that MÜV crossed them, I couldn’t resist trying it.

Before we get into the review, I want to acknowledge that this eighth represents a step up in overall flower quality for MÜV. They’ve seemed to be hit or miss in recent months, but both this and the eighth of Prophet I got (review coming soon) are both on a different level from anything else I’ve had from them recently.

Quick Facts:

Ice Cream Cake x Gelato (Hybrid)

Price at time of review: $50/eighth (T1)

Lineage: Ice Cream Cake x Gelato

Batch/Harvest Number: BU240920-9733ICCxG

Cannabinoids

THC: 18.55%

CBD: 0.06%

Total Cannabinoids: 18.61%

Terpenes

Unfortunately, MÜV doesn’t make their lab reports available, so I have no terpene percentages to provide for this strain. Whenever this information becomes available, I will update this section with the terpenes and their percentages.

Appearance/Cure

MÜV’s T1 flower is $50 per eighth vs. the $32 pricetag of their T3 flower, and the $40 for T2. Per their website:

Tier 1 ($50) and Tier 2 ($40) are selected based on potency, size, structure, terpene profiles and aroma. Tier 3 is based on size only.

The cure, trim, and really everything about this eighth is probably as good as I’ve ever seen from MÜV. It does appear to be hand-trimmed, the trichomes look like they were given more time to mature, and the flower itself just seems to be a tier of quality higher than anything I’ve gotten from them recently.

It appears that the Ice Cream Cake genetics won the battle with this phenotype, as there are prominent shades of deep purple throughout all of the buds. These flowers were pretty dense, but ground down well, and were just right with the moisture content.

If MÜV can keep up this quality and continue to improve upon it, I might be shopping for flower there more often.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.10/10.00

Smell/Taste

Ice Cream Cake x Gelato has a unique smell that is comparable to few other strains that I’ve tried. It’s predominantly sweet, with a cake batter/cookie dough smell seeming to be the dominating smell. There’s also a moderately distinguishable citrus smell (likely from the Gelato parent), and very faint hints of fuel and earth in the background when the flower is ground up. In some ways, this strain reminds me of Trulieve’s Sherbert flower; this makes sense given that Sunset Sherbet (another name for the same strain) is a parent strain for Gelato. The smell isn’t knockout-powerful strong, but is by no means weak or faint.

The taste when smoked comes through really well, and the cake/cookie taste is even more dominant in the taste, with the other smells only faintly coming through on the inhale – it’s all cake and cookies on the exhale for me.

Smell/Taste Rating: 7.80/100

Effects/Medical Use

This is one of those strains that really varies for me in its effect profile, depending on the amount I smoke.

Regardless of how much I smoke, it is consistent that there are prominent cerebral effects at the beginning, followed by a full-body relaxation that borders on sedation without ever really getting there.

The “challenge” for me, however, is that the cerebral and stimulating (“sativa”) effects seem to amplify with higher doses much more than the relaxing effects do. I found this out the hard way when I had a mild panic attack after a relatively large inhalation. It eventually faded into relaxation, but the relaxing effects were not amplified in the same way. This has remained true for multiple sessions with this strain – this may be something unique to my physiology, but it would be interesting to see if anyone else experienced this effect spectrum with Ice Cream Cake x Gelato. (If you did, drop a comment below and let us know!)

For me, this strain is best enjoyed in smaller doses. Even with what I consider to be a moderate tolerance for me, the effects get a little too potent in the higher doses.

However, when I get it just right, this is a perfect strain for the early to mid-evening hours. For me, it allowed me to remain functional while easing down into deeper relaxation for the late evening to bedtime hours.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Lack of energy/motivation
  • Depression
  • Relief of minor skeletal/muscular aches and pains
  • Good for general relaxation (in low doses)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 7.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 7.63/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Ice Cream Cake x Gelato as a “very good” hybrid strain from MÜV.

This was one of my first experiences with a more modern/recent strain cross, and I enjoyed getting to try a sample of both the Ice Cream Cake and Gelato genetics at the same time. It seems that MÜV did a good job growing it, and if this is consistent for their quality moving forward, I’ll certainly be back to try more of their experimental crosses in the near future – and of course, to review them for all of you.

  1. It’s disappointing that MUV isn’t making lab data available, I like the transparency that Trulieve has on their products because it allows me to make a more informed decision.
Over the past few years I have been paying more attention to the way that I feel after using my medication. In the beginning, THC was my main focus, but I have come to realize that the entourage effects are real and are very important for obtaining the most desired results.
It wasn’t until I stopped looking at marijuana as being simply marijuana but started looking at all the other medicinal components outside of THC, that’s when I realized that THC is just one small beneficial part of this fabulous plant. Thank you for taking the time to post your findings, I appreciate you and what you are doing.

  2. SO glad you got some! Dangg and the T1! This is Definitely one of those strains I feel you want the T1 or bust.. Lol As I am sure it did for you, this is one of those that I checked my vision as it appeared on screen..?! lol Though the T1 was all gone, I luckily got a 4am reservation in on T2, praying I wouldn’t get that dreaded call that it was sold out before getting to mine.. Velvet Glove is one of my favorite, go-to’s and I love the Modified Graped and Guru.. They all seem to have that similar small tight purple, signature Muv Indica look/family thing going on, but its working! It surely shows more as the quality descends to T2 being sometimes what I feel should be T3 at the size, but its still great, you know the small Muv Inidica Popcorns I’m talking about though.. The darkest purple, cant tell the difference between the strands much at this point because theyre so purple and crystal covered, all amazing and unique in their own way, though appearing similar its surely some of my favorite Indicas.. I would LOVEE to get to a point theyre cranking out Velvet Glove and Ice Cream Cake etc as big and perfect as a Trulieve 33% Papaya Cake Nug though.. I love MUV too and it is amazing but everyone knows TL’s got certain strains theyve perfected and theyre just Monsters! I wish they would get creative though! Anyways Cheers, peace & love. OH, ps!! OMG I finally hit COLUMBIA Care, it was a mile from my house!! BUT OMGG! For 39$ BEFORE 1st Timer Discount, I got 1/8s of Birthday Margy, Graddaddy Purple, Tangies and Cream, and Pineapple Express, and a THERACEED (I put in caps because their system w the stuff is named confusing as hell haha, but thats the best one, employee verified. Based off Pineapple Express profile or whatever, theres a Distillate and Live Resin/Rosin sort and they said the Distillate Vaporization Oil- Theraceed is all is says but it is a FULL SPECTRUM, Amazing Cart that comes with a free pen on first visit as well) Sorry sidetracked, but guys the 4 eighths I honestly was not expecting anything shocking, and it was quite shocking in the best of ways! To get that much insanely fire bud for such an insane great deal, and I’ve been back 3 times this week since.. I have bought crappier weed for both more and less but its all too rare you feel you hit a hottdam Jackpot! 2 of the 1/8s were 1 nug, giaant beauties! Just saying if you havent been in lately, these 39-42$ eights are incredible. Same with Harvest w the Roll One, not on ColCare level but solid!
