Trulieve Edibles Review: Love’s Oven 1:1 (CBD:THC) Fudge Brownies

The day that I would sit down to write my first edible product review has always seemed to be a far-off notion. I’m not sure why that’s the case – maybe something to do with all the delays in edible cannabis legislation for Florida, or maybe because I was focused on trying to try every single new strain of flower every week (a task that is nearly impossible now as the program has expanded since 2018.) Regardless of the reason, I have to admit that I didn’t think I’d be doing this any time soon.

Yet, here we are: edible cannabis products in Florida became a reality this month after an emergency ruling for said guidelines was passed in late August. And as is typical for Florida’s medical cannabis industry, Trulieve led the charge on expediting new products to the market. In early September, Trulieve released their “TruGel” gummy product: the first true (legal) edible cannabis product available to purchase in Florida.

This was followed by limited releases of cookies, chocolates, and the product we will be reviewing today: fudge brownies, released as a result of Trulieve’s partnership with Love’s Oven.

Quick Facts:

Batch: FINP-EDB-0010-PK-3

Price at time of review: $25/100mg (10 pieces, 10 mg each)

Ingredients: Distillate Cannabis Oil (5mg CBD, 5mg THC per brownie), Chocolate Chips, Sugar, Butter, Eggs, Flour, Cocoa Powder, Vanilla Extract, Salt, Baking Powder, Microgard Enzyme (cultured wheat starch, wheat flour), Powersoft Enzyme (sodium chloride, wheat starch, protein enzymes, microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin, palm olein).

CONTAINS: Wheat, Milk, Egg, Soy

Product Quality/Consistency:

Each brownie was individually sealed in a small plastic wrapper with “THC!” on the label. This seemed to do a decent job of preserving the freshness of the brownies. Edible reviews have room to be much more subjective than most, due to the fact that we all have our personal nuances with how we like various foods. That being said, I like for my brownies to be a tiny bit moist or even gooey, and these were a bit drier than that. But: like I said, I realize that may be the perfect consistency for other patients, so I try not to weight the review too much towards factors like this. What matters is that the brownie was fresh, and it didn’t all crumble apart when I handled it.

The brownies are tiny, but solid. Well done!

Product Quality/Consistency Rating: 8.00/10.00

Taste

The flavor was good – it tasted like I expected a packaged brownie to taste. The cannabis distillate taste was not there at all for me, which I considered a positive thing. These brownies weren’t overwhelmingly sweet, but had enough vanilla, sugar, etc. to provide a sweet sensation. It seems like a good balance of taste, and not overloading the product with unhealthy substances. I think the balance was struck well.

Taste Rating: 7.50/10.00

Effects:

Oral cannabis effects are different than inhalation by their very nature. They are very dose-dependent, and vary greatly from patient to patient based on individual tolerance. For an educational recap of oral cannabis effects, click here.

I mostly ate these brownies in the morning as a means to provide a more even “baseline” state for myself throughout the day, especially since they are 1:1 and have a significant amount of CBD in them as well.

With the CBD being there at a 1:1 ratio with the THC, the effects are much more “kept in check” than if this were a pure THC edible. I dosed with 5 brownies each time, with would be 25mg THC and 25mg CBD.

I found the effects to be similar, but more “muted”, “even”, or “balanced” than pure THC edibles. The main way I was able to tell that the brownies were working, was the fact that I didn’t really feel the need to medicate with inhalation for the ~4ish hours after I ate the brownies.

These 1:1 edibles seem like they’d be a great choice for novice cannabis consumers, or patients who haven’t medicated with edibles before. The CBD acts as a sort of “anchor” to ensure that the psychoactive effects of edible THC do not become too overwhelming.

Since the distillate used to make the brownies does not have the terpenes reintroduced, this edible (and all other current Trulieve edibles) is not strain-specific, nor is it listed as sativa, indica, or hybrid. However, I find smaller doses to provide more “sativa” effects, whereas moderate doses provide more “hybrid” or “indica” effects. Your mileage will likely vary, so the only way to figure out how edibles affect you, is to try them!

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Lack of motivation (in lower doses)
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Insomnia (especially in higher doses)

Effects Rating: 7.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 7.50/10.00

Trulieve’s 1:1 Fudge Brownies are best described as a “very good” product.

The one negative thing that many will argue about this product is the cost-effectiveness – many patients know that they can buy a gram of distillate and make their own edibles for much less money per milligram. However, the convenience is what is valuable here, and we must keep in mind that not everyone has the means or desire to make their own edible products.

If for nothing else other than the novelty – I say give them a try! Based off this experience, I will definitely try other edible products from Trulieve in the future.

Hope you all have a wonderful morning, afternoon, evening, or night – whichever applies. Thanks for reading the review!

New! – FLMCC Coffee Mugs

I’ve been talking about launching a merchandise line forever, and finally got around to it recently. The first product is live: the FLMCC Coffee Mug!

These are a great way to support the Collective and have another sleek new mug to add to the collection. They also pair amazingly with great sativa strains!
