Trulieve x Binske TruFlower Review: Blue Cheese (Indica)

I’ve waited a long time for one of my local MMTCs to offer the Blue Cheese strain in flower form. I’ve always seen it as one of the “classics” that I am obligated to try – up there with Jack Herer, Sour Diesel, OG Kush, Blue Dream, etc.

Yesterday (08.28.2020), Trulieve announced that they were releasing Blue Cheese flower through their collaboration with Binske cannabis. I just happened to see the email early in the morning, and was lucky enough to find it in stock at one of my two local dispensaries; I eagerly placed an order and picked it up yesterday afternoon.

I really enjoy this strain, and it some ways, it reminds me of another strain that shares the UK Cheese parent: GrowHealthy’s Queso Perro.

Quick Facts:

Blue Cheese (Indica)

(The label on the bottle was printed as “Hybrid”, but I believe this to be a misprint; the genetics are listed as an indica strain on various cannabis websites, and Trulieve’s website also listed it as an indica strain.

Appearance/Cure

Some of Trulieve’s recent batches of flower have been contenders for some of the best I’ve had in Florida. This eighth of Blue Cheese is certainly good, but it isn’t quite at the level that some of the other recent strains have been grown to. The trichomes are a light amber color, but don’t look quite as mature as they should be, so perhaps this batch was harvested a bit early.

As far as the cure and moisture content, they are nearly perfect, and the trim was almost immaculate as well, save for a couple of sugar leaves that were left behind.

I feel that this strain had a bit more potential, but Trulieve didn’t do a bad job at all with this first batch, and I expect the next few batches will be much improved.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 5.50/10.00

Smell/Taste

Blue Cheese has dominating smells of diesel-y hash and blueberry, which really become evident when the bud is handled, broken apart, or ground up. There is a slight hint of cheese in the midst of everything else, but surprisingly (or perhaps not), the hashy diesel (with slight hint of cheese) in this strain really reminds me of Queso Perro from GrowHealthy. As I mentioned before, both strains share the U.K. Cheese parent, so my guess is that this is where the smell comes from.

The blueberry smell is equally notable and equally dominant to the hash/diesel/cheese, and I obviously attribute this to the Blueberry parent.

Blue Cheese is not terribly pungent in the jar, but the smell is not hard to find once the lid is opened. It becomes much more noticeable when ground up. For reference (especially for readers who have tried both strains), I think Queso Perro is a more pungent strain than Blue Cheese – at least from my experience with the cultivars we currently have available in Florida.

When smoked, the blueberry translates surprisingly well to the taste, and dominates over the fuel/hash/cheese, with a hint of a spicy finish on the exhale.

Blue Cheese seems to have the genetic potential to have a really unique and pleasant/pungent aroma, so I’m interested to see reports of improvement in future batches from Trulieve – and to possibly try them myself. It is there in this batch, but I feel there is room for improvement.

Smell/Taste Rating: 6.50/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Blue Cheese hit me harder than I expected it to, with heavy/sedative effects among some of the heaviest of Trulieve’s indica flowers. I don’t find this to be an instant knockout, but it creeps in and becomes heavier with time, leaving the body feeling warm and idle. I am able to function and write this review after smoking a bowl, but I don’t feel like doing any physical activity at the moment. Such has been my experience each time I’ve medicated with this strain.

It reminds me of Queso Perro in the effects as well, but Blue Cheese seems to be quite a bit heavier, as the Queso leaned more sativa in my experience. This seems to be especially good for body aches and pains, so patients looking for that type of relief might especially appreciate this one.

For my personal use, I prefer Blue Cheese for evening and nighttime use. It leaves my mind cloudy and my body feeling heavy, which isn’t the best combination for productivity. If you find yourself to align with the effects in most of my other reviews, I recommend trying this when you don’t have anything important to get done. It’s among Trulieve’s heavier indica strains.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Insomnia (in higher doses)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 7.30/10.00

Overall Rating: 6.43/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Blue Cheese as a “good” indica strain from Trulieve.

For patients who enjoy the U.K. Cheese and/or Blueberry lineage, I’m sure you will find this strain is another enjoyable addition to that line – and a classic one at that. I will probably try it again next year if it is still available, as I find most MMTCs take a few batches before they really dial in on any new stains that they grow.

Trulieve continues to produce high quality flower, and I will continue to review new additions to their strain lineup as they come. Thank you to all who continue to support FLMCC – I hope this review was useful to you!

New! – FLMCC Coffee Mugs

I’ve been talking about launching a merchandise line forever, and finally got around to it tonight. The first product is live: the FLMCC Coffee Mug!

These are a great way to support the Collective and have another sleek new mug to add to the collection. They also pair amazingly with great sativa strains!

Here’s a link to the product page: (I highly recommend choosing the black color option!)

  1. This is on my “try” list, haven’t seen it yet in my part of the state. I would like to know what you have rated as ‘top choice” primo smoke? Have you found one yet that you would rate as 10/10, if not, what is your highest rated strain?
