GrowHealthy introduced their “Master Grower Series” tier of flower at the end of 2019. The idea behind this is that their growers take that little bit of extra care in every step of growing this flower, in exchange for a $10 price increase for the consumer – these eighths are $60 instead of the usual $50 that GrowHealthy charges.
Until now, GrowHealthy offered 2 strains in the “Master Grower Series”: Rain Maker, and another strain called Bitter Sweetz.
Florida Keys has several phenotypes that GrowHealthy has made available as different strains in their regular $50/eighth flower series. I got one of them – Key Largo – and will be reviewing it soon as well.
GrowHealthy’s product page offers the following description of Florida Keys:
We’re delighted to introduce Florida Keys, our third premium flower in the Master Grower Series™. Inspired by one of the world’s most iconic island chains, this sublime Indica brings together some of the world’s most iconic cannabis strains, artfully pairing the complex lineage of classic Bubba Kush and Key Lime Mints (a combination of Blue Lime Pie and Sin Mint Cookies). Bubba Kush’s heavy sedative effects combine with Blue Lime Pie’s pain-numbing and sleep-promoting effects, while the addition of Sin Mint Cookies introduces a euphoric cerebral effect, melting stress and enhancing mood. Florida Keys is recommended for evening use, as this one-of-a-kind Indica can be heavy.

Appearance/Cure

One of the main selling points of the Master Grower Series, is that all of the strains within that collection are allowed to cure for a full 28 days.
While I was not overly impressed with the Rain Maker I tried before – at least with it being any better than the $50 eighths – it turned out to be a different story with this eighth of Florida Keys.
In short, this is some of the best flower I’ve ever seen – especially from Florida’s legal market. The cure, trim, stickiness – everything – are nearly perfect. There are so many mature trichomes on this bud that it stands out more than the color of the flower itself.
The cure and moisture/stickiness are the closest to perfection that I’ve ever seen. I actually had to exert a small amount of physical effort to break a few of these buds open, but somehow, the grinder seemed to break it down into wonderfully sticky, easy-to-work-with flower.
This batch of Florida Keys again raises the bar for all the cure ratings on the flower reviews that come will come after it. I’ve said it before: whoever is in charge of the grow team for GrowHealthy needs to be heavily commended for their work. GrowHealthy should do whatever they can to keep that individual and team in place.

Smell/Taste
Florida Keys has limonene as its most dominant terpene, and that trait certainly comes through in the smell. This strain smells like a sweet, sugary lime citrus pastry with a hint of sweet/tangy skunk biting at the nose toward the end of inhalation. There’s also a “dutch” component lingering in the background; patients who have tried Trulieve’s Dutch Hawaiian strain will recognize it. There are very faint hints of the coffee/chocolate/berry aroma of the Bubba Kush present in the background as well.
The smells really come through when the buds are broken apart. I wouldn’t say Florida Keys smells exactly like key lime pie or other similar desserts, but it is really close to it – closer than any other strain I’ve come across, making Florida Keys one of the standout unique citrus strains I’ve tried.
The smell translates nicely to the taste when the flower is smoked, with hashy and spicy notes lingering through the exhale.
Florida Keys is another strong strain in the smell/taste category, and seems perfect for summertime due to its unique lime citrus dessert terpene profile.
Smell/Taste Rating: 8.40/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
Florida Keys is on the heavier side of the indica effects spectrum, but doesn’t quite become heavily sedating for me. For patients who have tried GrowHealthy’s Wookie Girl, I find the effects of Florida Keys to be similar – but heavier.
In lighter doses, I find this to be an excellent choice for relaxing and releasing any negative feelings after a mentally tasking day. Work has been tough the past couple of weeks, but Florida Keys had me glued to the TV as I played the “MyPlayer” mode of NBA 2K20 on Xbox One. Suddenly, the mundane worries of the day had completely melted away, and my depression and anxiety were both much better than they were before I medicated.
In heavier does, I think this could be a good choice for relaxing into a deep, restorative sleep. With all this being said, I generally think Florida Keys is best reserved for evening and nighttime usage. Another way to describe the effects is like an even cross between Bubba Kush (more sedating) and Wookie Girl (more relaxing) – it’s somewhere in the middle of those two strains.
Possibly good for treating:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Moderate aches and pains
- Moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
- General Relaxation
- Insomnia (especially in higher doses)
- May be a good strain for being social/talkative
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.
Effects Rating: 8.20/10.00
Overall Rating: 8.53/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Florida Keys as an “excellent” indica strain from GrowHealthy.
I felt that this flower was definitely a step above the average quality of GrowHealthy flower, even if only a small one.
Deciding whether something is “worth it” is totally subjective, so I am reserved in my judgment of this Florida Keys for that reason. I say to try out the Master Grower Series if you can afford to do so – if nothing else, just to see what the fuss is all about. However, Florida Keys was a Top 10 strain for me, for sure. It will have a spot in the next list I make.
Be well, and stay healthy. I appreciate each one of you and all your support, and please know that all that positivity will come back to you.
