GrowHealthy Flower Review: Wookie Girl (Indica)

Wookie Girl is a Cookies derivative that is a patient favorite in Florida, due to its flavorful smoke and its pleasant, relaxing effects.

I’ve read statements from patients on a few social media outlets that claim this strain can be hard to find, and/or doesn’t come around often, so I did not hesitate to order an eighth of their “Littles” (small buds) as soon as I saw it was available.

This is probably one of my favorite tasting strains that I’ve tried – and I know more than a few dozen patients in the Florida Medical Trees subreddit that would agree.

Appearance/Cure

I opted to get the “Littles” (small buds) for $35 eighth, due to currently being furloughed for the COVID-19 crisis – every dollar counts a little bit more than normal right now for me. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. These buds are actually small-medium in size, and are much larger than some buds I’ve paid much more money for in the past. The largest bud weighed over half a gram.

This flower is really pretty, and falls on the darker end of the green spectrum. It has both burnt orange and completely brown pistils (the latter being something I don’t see often), all covered in mature golden trichomes.

The trim job is nearly immaculate, and the cure is about as close to perfect as I can expect from “littles”. The buds are very dense, and yield a very soft, “fluffy” flower when ground apart.

This eighth of Wookie Girl continues a streak of outstanding flower from GrowHealthy. They truly seem to be on a roll as long as I’ve been able to get flower from them.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.00/10.00

Smell/Taste

Wookie Girl has a sweet and earthy smell, with strong hints of diesel and sugar, with a terpene profile that is reminiscent of its GSC parent. When ground apart, more of the fuel, and even some citrus terpenes become apparent. All of it comes together to remind me of some sort of candy – maybe black licorice?

What makes Wookie Girl so amazing in this category, however, is its taste. Usually strains tend to smell better than they taste to me. This makes sense, because smoking involves completely roasting the flower and all of its trichomes and terpenes. One wouldn’t expect for all of the terpenes (which give the flower its smell) to translate to taste through combustion.

This strain is a different story. It smells good, but it tastes incredible. Both the cookies and that licorice-like smell really come through in the taste, leaving a very sugary and slightly earthy taste on the exhale. I cannot get enough of this strain, and have smoked it way quicker than most other strains, because of how much I like the taste. The sugary/licorice notes seem to linger on the tongue for a while after the last hit.

Let it be clear: The smell of Wookie Girl is nice, but the way the taste translates when smoked is really something special. That is the reason it gets such a high rating here, which is somewhat exceptional – usually it is the smell of a strain alone, that earns it a high score in this category.

Smell/Taste Rating: 8.40/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

I recently wrote a review about Tikun Olam/VidaCann’s Alaska flower, and a lot of the effects section was dedicated to explaining how that batch was such a good example of why the THC percentage cannot always accurately determine how potent a particular flower will be.

I’ll be damned if that didn’t turn out to be the exact same case with this Wookie Girl flower. Want to know what those batches have in common? Both show signs of being allowed to fully mature, and having great care taken to maximizing the genetic potential of the plant. The trichomes are full, large, and golden in color. The cure shows patience and care. The percentages of cannabinoids or terpenes don’t tell the whole story, but patients with experience just know there’s a certain feel that quality medical flower has.

[Redacted: Medicated 3-paragraph rant about paying attention to the overall growth of a flower for maximizing medicinal potential. We’ll save that for a separate piece.]

Wookie Girl has balanced “classic” indica effects, right in the middle of the “indica” spectrum. The strain is mostly relaxing and uplifting, but can be sedating in higher doses. As I mentioned before, this 15% THC flower hit me with potent effects that equal or exceed some of my previous experiences with 25+% flower.

I find myself only using this strain in the late evenings. It is extremely relaxing, and not really ideal for me when I have things I need to get done. But it is perfect for doing almost any relaxing and/or mindless activity you can think of. Video games? Yes. Movies? Yes. Music? Absolutely.

You get the idea. This is a strain I’d love to keep around for those afternoons after a long productive day at work, or whatever your chosen profession may be. It is cerebral enough to be uplifting, but not enough to cause any sort of unpleasant sensations (for me, anyway.) The body effects are creeper in nature and become heavy fairly quickly. I took just 2 hits at the start of this review, and I am in that frame of mind where I’m staring into the words and letters as I write them. As you can tell, this strain has me rambling.

To get to the point: The effects are great. They’re exactly what I look for in an indica that I want to use in the evenings as I wind down for the day.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Moderate aches and pains
  • Moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
  • General Relaxation
  • Insomnia (especially in higher doses)
  • May be a good strain for being social/talkative

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.70/10.00

Overall Rating: 8.36/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Wookie Girl as an “excellent” indica strain from GrowHealthy.

This has quickly become one of my favorite indica strains. I’ll absolutely get it next time it comes around – whether or not I “need” it, it’s one of those rare strains that makes me want to have it as often as I can, a regular part of my rotation.

Patients looking for a great tasting, heavily relaxing indica should enjoy Wookie Girl. In my opinion, it has certainly earned its place as a favorite strain amongst Florida medical cannabis patients.
