MÜV Flower Review: Rainbow Trainwreck (Hybrid)

After watching other Florida medical cannabis patients rave about MÜV and their products for well over a year now, they have finally expanded into the west panhandle with their opening of the Tallahassee and Pensacola locations within the past month. I made it by the Pensacola location on 02.15.2020 to take advantage of their 25% off Grand Opening discount, and to finally try some of the products that everyone in South Florida has seemed to enjoy so much for the past couple of years.

MÜV offers 3 flower tiers: T1, T2, and T3, with T1 being the best batches based on size, potency, cannabinoids, and terpenes. Rainbow Trainwreck was the only strain available in T1, so I went ahead and spent the $50 for an eighth to see how it stacked up to T2 and T3.

I can’t find any information about Rainbow Trainwreck, but I assume this hybrid strain is descended from Trainwreck and another strain – possibly Rainbow? No matter what the parents are, one thing is for sure: this strain packs a strong punch.

Quick Facts:

Rainbow Trainwreck (Hybrid)

Price at time of review: $50/eighth (T1)

Lineage: Unknown; possibly Trainwreck x Rainbow

Batch/Harvest Number: BU270120-0298RT

THC: 18.43%

CBD: 0.04%

Total Cannabinoids: 18.47%

Unfortunately, MÜV doesn’t make their lab reports available, so I have no terpene percentages to provide for this strain. Whenever this information becomes available, I will update this section with the terpenes and their percentages.

(Glass jar purchased separately.)

MÜV’s T1 flower is supposed to be the best of the batch – the biggest nugs. This eighth of Rainbow Trainwreck did not disappoint; the 3 large nugs pictured weighed out to 3.6 grams.

While the nugs are large, they are also extremely dense. It took some extra effort to grind up larger pieces of this eighth, but it all breaks down nicely. This flower is also fairly sticky with nearly perfect moisture content, and the ground flower has an almost “soft” consistency that usually indicates the bud was cured and/or dried well.

This is pretty standard-looking green flower with orange and brownish pistils, but it is beautifully grown, and features an abundance of milky trichomes.

Compared to the T2 and T3 options I tried, the large buds coupled with the high quality of the flower made me feel that it was fair to put this flower in a higher tier. Well done, MÜV!

Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.00/10.00

Rainbow Trainwreck has a complex terpene profile with a lot of different subtle smells going on. The first smell that comes to mind upon opening the jar is a lighter, sweet citrus. Not necessarily any distinct citrus fruit such as oranges or lemons – just a general citrus smell.

I also detect a hint of pine in the background. There are hashy notes that remind me of strains like King Dosi, and there’s an overall smell of sweet fruit lingering in the background as well. All of it comes together for a very pleasant smell that seems to sit on the “lighter” side of the spectrum. It doesn’t smell skunky or musky, but it smells dank – if that makes sense.

Few flowers I’ve tried are able to preserve the taste when I smoke them in a bowl, but Rainbow Trainwreck does. The taste, remarkably, is very similar to the smell with all its complexities. This was one of those strains that made me think “wow!” and had me taken aback for a second; it’s really good.

Smell/Taste Rating: 6.30/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Rainbow Trainwreck definitely feels like a strong sativa-dominant hybrid to me. Though I haven’t tried its Trainwreck parent in flower form, I have read that many users can feel the negative side effects of anxiety and paranoia when first trying the strain. That seemed to be my experience with this Rainbow Trainwreck as well; even though I have a moderate tolerance, a couple of hits sent me into a bit of an anxious and hyper-aware state. For patients that struggle with anxiety from strong sativa effects, tread lightly with this one. It took a few times for me to be able to “harness” the effects of this strain.

Once I got a handle on Rainbow Trainwreck, though, it’s a really nice energetic and motivational strains. Even though it’s a hybrid, I’d put the energetic and racy components up there with the likes of Sour Diesel and other powerhouse sativas. This would be a great strain on a morning that you need to get a lot of things done. If you can control the effects, it is a great mood lifter as well.

After about 30-45 minutes, light body-relaxation effects begin to creep in, easing into a gentle taper out of the peak effects. I’d recommend this strain mostly for morning or early afternoon use.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression and related anxiety
  • ADD/ADHD or focus-related issues
  • Lack of motivation
  • Improves concentration and memory recall
  • Increases energy/alertness, in a way almost similar to caffeine
  • Minor aches and pains

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 6.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 6.43/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Rainbow Trainwreck as a “good” hybrid strain from MÜV.

I would be open to buying Rainbow Trainwreck again in the future, though I feel that T2 or T3 would be just as medicinally beneficial for this strain. If you’re looking for a high-energy hybrid that could get away with being labeled as a sativa strain, I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

This is just the beginning of many, many MÜV product reviews to come. Now that they’ve finally come to my part of Florida, I have a lot of catching up to do!
