Not long after releasing their “Atlas” (Durban Poison) flower in mid-November 2019, Fluent announced another new flower strain: “Versa”, or Critical Kush.
Critical Kush is generally known as a heavier indica strain, and I have found this to be true with Fluent’s Versa flower as well. Fluent’s product information sheet says that Versa is considered to be 90% indica, making it the closest to pure indica strain that Fluent currently offers.

Unfortunately, Fluent doesn’t make their lab reports available, so I have no terpene percentages to provide for this strain. Whenever this information becomes available, I will update this section with the terpenes and their percentages.
Appearance/Cure

Fluent continues their consistency of high-quality flower batches with another solid eighth in this batch of their Versa flower. In fact, this is probably one of the best cured eighths of flower that I’ve gotten from them. The moisture content is about as close to perfect as I’ve seen from Fluent, and all of the buds in my eighth were large, which is always nice to find.
These buds are pretty sticky, and tend to want to hold together when broken apart. The color is mint green, with a few medium-green lowlights. The trichomes are crystal colored and visible with the naked eye, even without using a flashlight. Dark orange pistils weave all around the buds, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing flower.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.00/10.00
Smell/Taste
This eighth of Critical Kush had a nice smell. While this is not overpowering or loud bud, I can easily detect the different terpenes when opening the jar. I find this strain to be equally sweet, spicy, and earthy, with fruity and skunky undertones. This is consistent with what I’ve seen for the description of Critical Kush on other sites such as Hytiva, etc.
The taste is about the same as the smell. While not an absolute standout in this category, I really do enjoy the smell and taste of this flower.
Smell/Taste Rating: 6.80/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
In my experience, Versa/Critical Kush is certainly on the heavier and more sedating side of the indica spectrum. I strictly use this strain in the late hours just before bed, and also use it if I wake up in the middle of the night and need a little help getting back into a deep sleep.
There is a very mild cerebral component to this strain that can lead to a bit of increased thought/introspection, but this quickly melts into the heavy body effects. Full-body relaxation begins creeping in within the first 15 minutes after the initial inhalation, and continues to intensify throughout the duration of effects. I almost always find myself getting sleepy after smoking this Versa.
I actually tried to medicate with this first thing in the morning one day, just to see if the fact that I’m tired late at night was the main reason I felt that Critical Kush is so sedating. I quickly found that even though I had a restful night of sleep before, I started becoming more groggy and sleepy feeling for a few hours. Caffeine and continuous movement & engagement in tasks helped me get through the approximately 3 hours of heavy relaxation/sedating effects that this strain brings on, but I certainly didn’t try using it in the morning again after that.
If you’re looking for a strain that helps treat insomnia, this is one that I’d recommend. I strictly advise using it at nighttime, unless you have a high tolerance and microdose – that might be a way to get pain-relieving effects and remain functional with use of this strain during the day.
Possibly good for treating:
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Moderate aches and pains
- Moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
- Heavy Relaxation
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.
Effects Rating: 7.80/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.20/10.00
Overall, I would best describe “Versa” as a “good, powerful” indica strain from Fluent Cannabis.
Though I feel $50 is too expensive for eighths of non-exotic strains in the current Florida cannabis market, I didn’t feel too terrible about what I paid for the quality of this eighth, as it has been useful for nights when I need a little help in getting a restful sleep.
If you’re looking for a powerful indica to help you get to sleep at night, or help your body relax to take the edge off of various ache and pains, I would highly recommend this strain. It’s one of the heaviest and most sedating indica strains that I’ve had, and I’m likely to get it again at some point in the future, especially if the price comes down.
