Liberty Health Sciences: “Papa’s Herb” Whole Flower – Bio Diesel (Hybrid)

Shortly after smokable marijuana was legalized in Florida in early 2019, Liberty Health Sciences (LHS) made themselves known for having the most affordable flower on the market – namely with their “Papa’s Herb”, or lower tier flower, at $25/eighth. In the beginning, this also meant that LHS was known for having extremely low quality flower.

However, time and repetition proved to be useful to Liberty and their flower products, as the quality of their flower has steadily improved.

My experience with this eighth of Bio Diesel has been very enjoyable. I definitely feel it is a value purchase at $25/eighth, and while the aesthetic properties are a tier below most of the other flower I’ve tried in Florida, the medicinal effects are very potent and enjoyable.

Bio Diesel is a direct descendant of a few varieties of Sour Diesel, and it surely comes through in some of the terpenes and effects. This strain first became well-known in 2009, when it took first place at Colorado’s 2nd Medical Marijuana Harvest Cup.

Appearance/Cure

This eighth of Bio Diesel features dark green buds with some lighter green accents, a pretty generous coating of white trichomes, and a dusting of burnt orange pistils. This strain looks a lot like a darker form of Sour Diesel flower.

The buds break apart pretty easily, and while there is some stickiness to this flower, it is a bit on the dry side. The cure could use some more refining – though at $25/eighth, I know not to expect premium quality cures.

The trim job could also use more work, as there are a fair amount of large sugar leaves left behind, which at this point is typical for LHS flower.

Overall, the cure isn’t really bad, nor is it really great. This is overall average flower in appearance and cure.

Smell/Taste

Bio Diesel certainly presents some of its Sour Diesel parent in its smell. It reminds me a lot of a very weaker version of Fluent’s “Subra” (Sour Diesel) flower’s terpene profile. The dominant smells are earthy and musky, with a faint hint of diesel and another sweet smell.

This flower is not especially pungent as one might expect from a strain with “Diesel” in the name, but I would not say it “smells like hay”, as a lot of patients tend to say about LHS flower. For $25, the taste and smell aren’t bad – you get what you pay for, and this is about what I’d expect for such relatively inexpensive flower that is marketed for being lower tier.

Effects/Medical Use

I find the effects from Bio Diesel to be very similar to Sour Diesel, with the difference being that there is a slightly heavier comedown with Bio Diesel being a hybrid strain with indica-leaning parents.

Initial effects are very potent, speedy, racy, and energizing. This is a strain that new patients or low tolerance patients need to take very lightly and very slowly. I find that Bio Diesel is an excellent strain for motivation and for getting things done. Cerebral effects are powerful, and enhance colors and the overall field of vision and visual perceptions. Music seems more enjoyable with this strain, and tasks are easy to stay focused on, especially in the beginning stages of the effects.

After the typical 30-35 minute “comeup” period of effects, the hybrid tendencies come out, with a relaxed body sensation. For me, this feels like a very sativa-dominant hybrid, and is never too sedating to interfere with staying functional. I enjoy this strain most in the morning and early afternoon, and as I said above, find it to be a slightly heavier alternative to Sour Diesel.

Possibly good for treating:

• Depression and related anxiety 
• ADD/ADHD or focus-related issues
• Lack of motivation
• Improves concentration and memory recall
• Increases energy/alertness, in a way almost similar to caffeine 
• Relief of minor aches and pains

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Overall, I would best describe Bio Diesel as a “below average” hybrid strain from Liberty Health Sciences.

At $25/eighth, I feel this product is certainly worth its cost, with the effects being what really increase the value. I’d recommend this to any patient who enjoys potent sativa effects, or the Sour Diesel strain lineage. It’s great medicine for uplifting through depression, and kickstarting an energized motivation to get things done.

If you need to get your cannabis medicine on a tighter budget, this is a wonderful product for daytime use. While the cure, trim, and terpenes are on the weaker side, the effects are about as good as any other flower I’ve gotten at higher price points. I might get this strain again in the future, but I’ll definitely be interested in sampling other strains from Liberty’s “Papa’s Herb” line soon.
