Trulieve TruFlower Review: Northern Hash Plant (Indica)

Northern Hash Plant first became available in Florida by way of Trulieve’s flower vape cups (review here) in early 2019. It subsequently disappeared until September 2019, when it became available in full flower form.

I really enjoyed this strain back when I tried it in the flower cups, and I’ve found the same is true with the full flower version. This is one of the heaviest indica strains I’ve tried in Florida.

Appearance/Cure

Northern Hash Plant buds are pretty and medium-green in color. There are also flecks of purple at the bottom of some of the buds; this is consistent with the flecks of purple I found in some of the buds when I purchased this strain in the vape cups early this year.

This seems to be a very dense flower, and a little goes a long way when loading a bowl or one-hitter of this strain.

Again, the cure on this flower is really good; however, the moisture content seems to leave a little room for it to be slightly drier. I always love a good sticky bud, but I find that I almost have difficulty burning the end of the bowl when I load it up with this flower.

Overall, the cure and moisture are both good, and this is a pretty strain that seems to have remained consistent despite having a 7 month gap in between batches.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 6.90/10.00

Smell/Taste

This strain is abundant in myrcene, and that immediately becomes apparent when opening the jar, as a very strong “musty”, almost-sour smell hits the nose.

There are also earthy and piney scents present in Northern Hash Plant, and an ever-so-subtle hint of citrus lingering in the background.

This is consistent with what I detailed in my review of the batch that was released early this year; the difference is that we now have access to the terpene content in the lab reports (where I got the terpene percentages listed above), and those concentrations of terpenes check out with my experience with the smell and taste of this strain.

For patients who enjoy the pungent and dank strains, this is a good choice.

Smell/Taste Rating: 6.40/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

As I mentioned in the very beginning of this review, Northern Hash Plant is a really heavy indica for me. I experience some light cerebral stimulation immediately after inhaling a hit of this strain, but the real feature of Northern Hash Plant lies in the heavy body effects that become noticeable not long after medicating.

In lighter doses, I can still perform some tasks that require concentration; for example, I took a hit of Northern Hash Plant right before I started writing this review. While I am able to do this without any sedative hinderance, I do find that my head feels a bit heavy even with the lighter dose, and my body feels very relaxed.

Higher doses almost always end in my taking a nap or going to sleep for the night. For that reason, I would primarily recommend Northern Hash Plant for late night medication, and I find it particularly useful about an hour before going to bed for the night.

The initial light cerebral stimulation may keep thoughts going enough to prevent sleep in the very beginning stages of the effects from this strain, but for me, that doesn’t last long – it always ends up becoming sedative after some time.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Anxiety
  • Moderate aches and pains
  • Moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
  • General Relaxation
  • Insomnia (especially in higher doses)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.20/10.00

Overall Rating: 7.16/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Northern Hash Plant as a “good, heavy” indica strain from Trulieve.

At $43/eighth and due to the desirable heavy indica effects, I will most likely be purchasing this strain again in the future. If you’re looking for a heavy and sedating indica strain, Northern Hash Plant is a good choice from my experience.

    1. That’s cool that they gave you strain specific recommendations. What was their source or reasoning? (I agree with them by the way.)
