For the first time since early 2019, Trulieve released two new flower strains on 09.11.2019 – Shipwreck (review here), and Paradise Waits.
I first tried the Paradise Waits strain in Trulieve’s CO2 vape cart line (review here). At the time, I stated that Paradise Waits was one of my top 5 favorite strains in the Florida Medical Cannabis industry. Trying the flower form of this strain only reiterated that feeling; I also feel that this batch of flower is the best that Trulieve has ever released, in all areas.

Appearance/Cure

I’ve complimented Trulieve’s increasingly high-quality consistency with the cures on various strains of their flower in recent months, but this eighth of Paradise Waits is on an entirely different level, and raises the bar for my reviews of flower in this category.
Paradise Waits has an impressive mosaic of green hues – there are light/lime greens, medium greens, and medium-dark greens all in this flower. As you can expect from the high cannabinoid percentages, this flower is absolutely caked in golden trichomes, which gives it an almost golden appearance from some angles. There is also a solid covering of tiny burnt orange pistils dispersed throughout the buds.
The flower is pretty sticky, and the moisture content is again almost perfect. The buds are very dense, and a little goes a long way when breaking it apart for medication.
I don’t usually hype products like this unless they really impress me, but this is currently the best flower I’ve gotten in Florida (keeping in mind that I’m in the western Panhandle, and don’t have access to the same variety that many patients in central and south Florida enjoy.)
This batch of Paradise Waits sets the standard of my ratings in this category going forward. This will be the batch to beat.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.50/10.00
Smell/Taste
As you may guess from the terpene percentages listed above, Paradise Waits has a lot going on in the smell/taste category. This is a sweeter smelling strain to me when all terpenes are considered.
The citrus and pine smells are definitely there; I find that the citrus characteristics of this strain almost present a smell similar to fresh pineapple. The muskiness of the carophyllene and myrcene is certainly noticeable as well, while fresh floral notes from the linalool are present in the background.
With all these smells combined, Paradise Waits ends up being a “loud”, pungent flower. Some of the terpenes remind me of the hard-to-place “fresh rain”-like smell I’ve noticed in strains such as Gorilla Grapes and LA Confidential.
When smoked, the taste comes out fresh, citrusy, hashy, and sweet.
All told, I really enjoy the smell and taste of this strain. As I stated above, this is currently the highest verified terpene content in any strain that I’ve gotten in Florida’s medical cannabis industry. Many of the major cannabis terpenes are present, and it surely comes out in the complex smell of Paradise Waits.
Smell/Taste Rating: 8.00/10.00
Effects/Medical Use
I’ve said it many times – THC percentage isn’t everything. However, this batch of Paradise Waits has both high THC content and high terpene content, and it absolutely hits.
Effects are immediately noticeable and pack a potent punch. Initially, cerebral effects are predominant, resulting in color enhancement and subtle shifts to the visual field. Subtle body relaxation becomes apparently soon after the cerebral effects, resulting in a warm sativa-dominant-like buzz. While the cerebral effects are potent, they didn’t cause me much in the way of anxiety, even with my current low tolerance.
I found myself to be a bit giggly on this strain as time went on. Something I noticed about this batch of Paradise Waits is that the effects seemed to stretch on significantly longer than most flower I’ve tried; usually I get 1 to 1.5 hours of noticeable effects, but they lasted for in the 2-3 hour realm with this strain.
After the first hour, I tend to get the munchies with this strain. After about 2 hours have passed, I seem to always become really sleepy, especially if I indulged in a lot of food from the munchies.
With all that being said, this is a late afternoon and evening strain for me, as I always seem to become couch-locked a couple of hours after medicating. I am not productive on this strain by any means – it’s something I’ll reach for if I plan on watching TV or playing video games, or basically any type of leisure activity.
This strain is personally a little too cerebrally stimulating in the early stages for me to use it directly before bed, but it is a great strain to wind down at the end of the day, and is extremely relaxing if mixed with a little bit of CBD.
When I tried Paradise Waits in vape cart form, I initially described it as a 70/30% sativa-dominant hybrid. Interestingly enough, I would describe the flower with the exact opposite percentage: a 70/30% indica-dominant hybrid.
This is a wonderful hybrid strain, and I hope Trulieve intends on bringing it into their strain rotation fairly often.
Possibly good for treating:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Minor to moderate aches and pains
- Headaches
- General relaxation/relief
- Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Appetite stimulation
- Insomnia (if used several hours before bedtime)
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.
Effects Rating: 8.00/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.83/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Paradise Waits as an “excellent” hybrid strain from Trulieve.
At $43/eighth, I would absolutely consider purchasing this strain again in the future. If you like indica-dominant hybrids, this is a strain you need to add to your list.
This batch of Paradise Waits has set the bar for my flower reviews going forward. It is one of the few strains I’ve had that is truly outstanding in every category, and I will certainly be picking up more batches in the future.
