Surterra “Florida’s Finest” Pre-Roll Review: Chemdog (Hybrid)

Today (07..08.2019), I was surprised to receive an email from Surterra announcing that they finally had flower available in the form of 0.5 gram pre-rolls.

3 strains were initially released at launch (for a select few locations): Original Glue (GG4), Stardawg, and Chemdog.

Since I’ve already tried Stardawg flower from Trulieve (review here), I opted to try the Original Glue and Chemdog.

After sharing the Chemdog with my wife (who is also a patient), we were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of the effects. This feels like high-quality medicine, just as much as the flower that I’ve tried from Trulieve, Fluent, and VidaCann.

Appearance/Product Quality

I immediately noticed the fact that the twisted ends weren’t cut off – not sure how much this would cut into production time, but it feels like it would be a nice “final touch” to really pull this product together.

I’m appreciative of the fact that Surterra does not bleach their papers. The flower itself, as shown in an image from Redditor Comet_trees, is actually high quality ground flower – not shake, as some other Redditors have claimed.

Other than the goofy twisted ends that were left behind, I don’t have anything negative to say about this product. It burned nice and even – not rolled too tight or too loose. Enjoyable smoke.

Appearance/Product Quality Rating: 3.90/5.00

Smell/Taste

This pre-roll of Chemdog did not have a strong smell, as evidenced by the low terpene percentages listed above. This was a bit disappointing for me, as Chemdog is known for its pungent smell. What smell I did notice had a hint of that pungent, skunky, chemical smell.

As I smoked the joint, the taste on exhale was more of an earthy pine. The taste was more enjoyable than the smell, but I am still a bit disappointed that this cut of Chemdog did not slap me in the face with its classic pungent odor.

Smell/Taste Rating: 3.50/5.00

Effects/Medical Use

This category is where the Chemdog pre-roll really shined. The effects are immediate, with a strong forehead and “behind the eyes” sensation. This quickly launches into a relaxed cerebral space, accompanied by subtle warm body sensations. This strain notably reduced my anxiety.

After 30 minutes or so, as with many hybrids, the indica effects of body relaxation become more apparent. I feel ever so slightly sleepy as I type this, about 40 minutes after smoking the joint; however, the main (and very welcome) sensation that I feel is total relaxation. Based on the effects, I will definitely pick up Chemdog in the future, especially in full flower form.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Minor aches and pains
  • General relaxation
  • Headaches
  • Lack of appetite (mild appetite stimulant)
  • Mild gastrointestinal discomfort (Irritable Bowel Syndrome or other similar conditions)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 4.00/5.00

Overall Rating: 3.80/5.00

Overall, I would best describe the Surterra Wellness Chemdog pre-roll as an “above average” product.

For me personally, I find prerolls to be a good choice for “special occasions”, or for times that one needs a higher dose of medication, but perhaps doesn’t feel like going through the trouble of rolling a joint themselves. Prerolls are also a great choice for patients who don’t know how to roll joints, and a convenient option for those who do.

I would much prefer to have a full flower available at Suterra; however, I’ve heard mixed rumors regarding whether or not they will ever do so – suppose only time will tell here.

Ultimately, it is nice to have another option for whole cannabis flower in Florida’s medical program. For their first batch, Surterra did a nice job with this cut of Chemdog, though I would definitely like to see higher terpene percentages in future batches. Not sure what the solution would be for Surterra in that regard, but it is something to consider.

I’ll have a review of Surterra’s Original Glue pre-roll coming soon, so be sure to check the site and all of our social media for the latest! I would definitely recommend this product for most any patient, especially at $7.50 – you don’t have a whole lot to lose there.
