Fluent Black Vape Cart Review: “Hydra” (Jack Herer – Sativa)

“Black” is Fluent Cannabis (formerly Knox Medical)’s vape cart line that features pure cannabis distillate and cannabis-derived terpenes in the cartridge; the Black line is not cut with MCT oil as their other vape carts are.

“Hydra” is Fluent’s name for Jack Herer, which is a well-known sativa strain named for the cannabis activist who authored The Emperor Wears No Clothes.

This was my first experience with Fluent’s vape carts, and I am pretty impressed with the quality of their distillate. This cut of Jack Herer is more relaxing than others I’ve tried up to this point.

Quick Facts:

“Hydra” (Jack Herer – Sativa)

Price at time of review: $60/450mg

Lineage: Haze x Shiva Skunk x Northern Lights #5

Batch/Harvest Number: 6834682677156824

89.335% THC

0.303% CBD

0.327% CBN

89.965% Total Cannabinoids

THC: 446.675 mg

CBD: 15.15 mg

CBN: 16.35 mg

“Hydra” (Jack Herer) tastes a lot like the batches of flower that I’ve gotten from Trulieve taste when vaped. The dominant tastes are earthy and somewhat peppery, with a very slight hint of sweet citrus in the background.

I tried a Jack Herer cart from Curaleaf last year (review here), and I think the taste from this “Hydra” vape cart is what they were going for; Fluent did a much better job with getting the terpenes right in this cart.

Fluent reintroduces the terpenes from the same flower that the cannabinoids were extracted from; these cannabis-derived terpenes offer some of the most authentic representations of the taste of the flower for which they are named.

Vapor and Product Quality

I’m not sure what the name for these type of vape carts (pictured above) is, but both Fluent and Curaleaf use them. They work pretty well, though I had one issue with this cart.

I’m not sure if it’s because this oil is so thick (it’s hands down the the thickest distillate I’ve ever seen), but I had more clogging issues with this car than any other cart I’ve tried to this point.

The medtender at Fluent did mention using the preheating function on their vape pen to help loosen up the oil; I found this to be fairly effective, but turning the heat up to 2nd and 3rd highest settings was just as effective after a strong inhalation.

Overall, this is a quality product, but I have to take off a bit on the score due to the clogging.

Vapor/Product Quality Rating: 3.60/5.00

Jack Herer is described as a 55% sativa-dominant hybrid. I always found other Jack Herer products to be much more energizing and seemingly sativa-dominant, but Fluent’s cut of this strain could accurately be described with the 55% figure.

The cerebral effects can be felt almost immediately with a noticeable sharpening of vision; after about 45 minutes, this fades into a more relaxed and focused sensation.

Though I still found his product great for daytime use, it was much more relaxing than other sativa distillates and vape carts that I’ve tried. It was still great for focusing and getting work done, with the added benefit of relaxing my body towards the latter part of the effects.

In higher doses, I did start to experience some lack of motivation for working through the end of the day, so I would recommend sticking to lighter doses with this Hydra cart if you’re looking to stay motivated through a task list.

Other than that, I really thought this was a great daytime medication choice.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Lack of motivation (in lower doses)
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms

Effects Rating: 3.80/5.00

Overall Rating: 3.87/5.00

Fluent’s “Hydra” (Jack Herer) “Black” Vape Cart is best described as a “very good” product.

Due to the higher price tag and the fact that I prefer more energizing and motivation sativa strains, I probably won’t get this product again, unless there is a discount or sale. However, I think it has the potential to be a favorite for many patients, and definitely recommend everyone to give it at least one try – if you have the funds.

Overall, I would say I was impressed with Fluent’s distillate vape carts, and will definitely be back to try their other strains in the future.

  1. I noticed that they Harvest a week or so after the full moon. All the other dispensaries including those in Colorado all Harvest on the full moon. That’s when the THC in the trichomes are at their Peak. I think that’s why it was a little bit on the Sleepy side.
