Gaia Wellness Hemp Flower Review: Hawaiian Haze (High CBD)

Gaia Wellness is a company based out of Florida that sells high-CBD projects including hemp flower, hemp shatter, hemp flower prerolls, CBD isolate, and many other varieties. I’ve followed them for quite some time before pulling the trigger on ordering an eighth of their CBD flower.

I’m pretty impressed with the overall quality of the flower, the way it was packaged, and the way that the full spectrum effects of hemp flower affect me on a medical level.

Appearance/Quality

Having never tried hemp flower before, I was surprised and impressed at how closely this flower resembled some medical marijuana flower and curing that I’ve seen in the past. The buds ranged in size from small, “popcorn” buds to a large nug that was nearly 2 grams on its own; the larger buds were medium green in color where the smaller ones were darker green and purple. All buds contained a fair amount of medium orange pistils, and all buds were absolutely covered in sparkling trichomes full of CBD and other cannabinoids.

Whoever cured this flower did a nice job – I understand that Gaia Wellness sources their hemp flower from a grower out west in another legal state. Each bud was nicely trimmed, and all buds were extremely dense, particularly the largest one pictured above. The moisture content was nearly perfect as well; each bud was extremely sticky (not too dry) and broke down pretty well in a grinder.

The entire eighth weighed out to be 4.0 grams – thanks for the extra, guys!

Smell/Taste

Hawaiian Haze hemp flower has a really fruity and sweet smell that dominates the terpene profile. In fact, it reminds me of the smell of Colombian Gold medical marijuana flower. There’s also an earthy/musky underlying scent that takes a couple of sniffs to identify.

The taste of Hawaiian Haze, however, is totally different. This strain is very spicy and peppery on the inhale, with a more earthy and herbal taste on the exhale. I did not detect any of the fruity or sweet notes in the taste, which was surprising for me given how much those terpenes dominated the smell.

While I really enjoyed the smell of the flower, it wasn’t my favorite taste. The other detrimental factor here was the harshness of the smoke, though I am not sure if this is just a characteristic of smoking hemp flower, or anything to do with this strain in particular or the way it was grown/cured. It seemed to be much more harsh than the smoke from any medical marijuana flower I’ve ever tried.

Overall, I enjoyed the smell, but wasn’t a huge fan of the taste and harshness of the smoke that this flower produces. Maybe trying another strain of hemp flower is the solution for this?

Effects/Medical Use

Hawaiian Haze hemp flower provides relaxing effects that one would expect from a high-CBD product. One of the most notable feelings that I feel almost immediately after the first puff is a cooling, relaxing sensation that spreads from the interior of the body outward to the muscles. This leaves me feeling much more relaxed, and I could see it being effective for minor to moderate pain.

I love to supplement a small bowl of this flower with a larger bowl of high-THC marijuana flower; I find that this combination tends to provide the most well-rounded benefits from cannabis flower. Another good use of this flower is to take the edge off the effects from THC if they become too overwhelming.

This flower does not provide any sort of intoxicating or euphoric feeling on its own, but it is good for general relaxation and for supplementation with medical marijuana if one is looking for a more wide range of medical benefits. It doesn’t really make me feel any more energetic or any more sleepy, but it does seem to provide an overall sense of calm and relaxation.

I don’t think I would buy this strain to smoke it recreationally, but I do believe that is has widespread medicinal value and is a great choice for any cannabis patient who is looking to expand or increase their CBD intake. The effects are enjoyable, overall.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Anxiety (especially anxiety caused by THC)
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Restlessness
  • Headaches
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (Irritable Bowel Syndrome or other similar conditions)

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 5.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 5.83/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Gaia Wellness’ Hawaiian Haze hemp flower as a “pretty good” CBD product.

I’ve been impressed with Gaia Wellness throughout the experience I had with them: they shipped quickly, packaged the product very professionally (lab report and a note to law enforcement should the package be searched/detained were included), the product itself is good quality, and they have been very responsive to questions on social media.

I’ll definitely be ordering other hemp products from Gaia Wellness in the future, and I’d absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to try hemp-derived CBD products.
