Trulieve Flower Review: Truberry OG (Hybrid)

Truberry OG is Trulieve’s first “original” strain, grown from breeding Trueberry and a second strain that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. (Bonus points for whoever knows the answer!)

This strain actually caught my attention as I was picking up another set of strains; my local Trulieve will sometimes display different buds in those little “Budbar” plastic containers that allow you to smell them as well. I noticed that the bud they were displaying had a fairly significant amount of purple in it, something that I haven’t seen in a lot of other strains they’ve had available. I decided I would try it if it were available during my next pickup, and luckily, I was able to get the last one in the store the next week. Truberry OG has been a pleasant surprise with its effects, which are comforting and mellow. The taste is pretty phenomenal as well – definitely lives up to the strain name.

Appearance/Feel

The batch of Truberry OG I purchased was cured very well, among some of the best flower I’ve yet seen from Trulieve. The buds I got were particularly colorful: there are splotches of purple throughout the flower, various shades of both light and dark green, and both light and burnt orange pistils all throughout with glossy white trichomes between and within. The appearance of the bud they had on display at my local dispensary was what sealed my future purchase of this strain in the first place, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the outcome. Overall, the buds are some of the darkest colored I’ve seen Trulieve grow; though there are little specks of bright green and yellow/white throughout, the predominant colors are the dark greens and purples. This is is some of the best flower I’ve seen – definitely in my top 5 purchases in the program.

Appearance Rating: 4.10/5.00

Smell/Taste

Truberry OG is one of the first strains I’ve gotten that tastes anywhere near what the name suggests. There is definitely a dominating scent of berry when you open the jar; I would say the smell and taste both are somewhere between blueberry and blackberry. Where I’ve had some vaped bowls of Colombian Gold that tasted like Fruit Loops, Truberry OG’s equivalent would be the Berry edition of Fruit Loops. (Is that a thing?)

There’s also a secondary citrus smell and a subtle pungent odor; the smell is just really nice in general. The buds vape really well and taste very similar to the smell; the berry taste, if anything, is even more noticeable when taking the first inhales and exhales of a new bowl. While Oregon Lemons did not smell or taste much like lemons to me, Truberry OG definitely smells and tastes like some sort of berry.

Smell/Taste Rating: 4.10/5.00

Effects/Medical Use

This strain surprised me in the medicinal effects that I felt from it. Truberry OG seems to be a very balanced hybrid, if not possibly tipping very slightly to indica effects. When vaping this strain, my body definitely feels a warm and relaxing sensation, but my mind also seems to sharpen and focus in to any task at hand. I found this strain made cleaning our house actually somewhat enjoyable, and writing this review is flowing as well as any other content I’ve published to this site. Truberry OG is relaxing but not sedating; it definitely has a closely balanced blend of typical sativa and indica effects. This strain seems good for medicating at any time of the day.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Headaches or other minor body aches
  • Relief of nausea or similar gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Relief of mild anxiety
  • Relief of minor depression
  • Relief of minor lack of motivation or inability to focus

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 3.90/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.03/5.00

Overall, I would best describe this Truberry OG as “especially enjoyable”.

For their first in-house strain, Trulieve has done a really good job with Truberry OG. I look forward to seeing future strain creations from them; perhaps they will experiment with growing flowers for different cannabinoid ratios other than varying CBD and THC levels. As we’ve been saying, we really expect 2019 to be a significantly memorable year for the growth of the Florida cannabis industry.
