Curaleaf Distillate Vaporizer Cartridge – Jack Herer (Sativa) Product Review

The Jack Herer 400mg Distillate Vaporizer Cartridge was among the first Curaleaf products that I had the pleasure of sampling. The product development team did a nice job in emulating the terpene profile of the classic Jack Herer strain, and the effects felt fairly accurate when compared to its flower counterpart as well. The cartridge is $48 for 400mg, which is around or just below the current Florida market average as of December 2018.

Quick Facts:

Jack Herer Distillate (Sativa)

THC: ~ 80%

CBD: ~0.8%

Other Ingredients: MCT Oil, Natural Terpenes

As with my other reviews, I rate this product on three main criteria. Those three scores will be averaged for a final “overall score” and basic description of the product quality.

Taste

Upon first inhaling the vapor (using the Curaleaf silver pen in this instance), the Jack Herer distillate immediately blasted my taste palate with a strong earthy taste reminiscent of fresh soil – I mean that in the best way possible. The terpenes are described on the product page as “natural terpenes”; it doesn’t specify whether they are cannabis-derived or simply plant-derived, though.

The end result works: For patients who have medicated with the Jack Herer flower, you know that the strain has a woody and earthy smell/taste profile. The distillate is no different, and leaves a woody and spicy taste upon exhale. I often found myself “accidentally” medicating more than I needed to due to enjoying the taste of this product.

Taste Rating: 3.80/5.00

Vapor Quality

Curaleaf’s version of the CCell cartridge vaporizes the distillate very efficiently – so much that I found I was running out of this product sooner than I had hoped. I’m not sure if it’s the design of the cartridge, my indulgence in the product, or a combination of both, but this product would have been even better if there was a way for it to last longer. Perhaps a variable control of the airflow, akin to Surterra’s Florida’s Finest line of products? Either way, the cartridge has really good airflow and gets the job done well.

Vapor Quality Rating: 3.70/5.00

Effects

This product invokes classic sativa effects through and through. There is a racy quality that I’ve spoken of before in my Trulieve Sour Diesel flower review ; the Curaleaf Jack Herer vape cartridge has this quality as well. Though it can sometimes take inexperienced patients off guard, it has a useful medical quality in helping patients overcome depression and the often resultant lethargy and malaise. With the cart being near 80% THC, this feeling can be quite powerful in small doses. This strain was good for getting out and enjoying the Southeast Florida sun and enjoying shopping and other activities the local area had to offer.  The warmth of the day felt even nicer than usual while walking from store to store, and the sativa-enhanced colors of the area pierced through my vision quite well. The effects of this product were nice, and I would buy it again. (Might do that soon!)

The strain would usually best be suited for morning or early afternoon use as its powerful sativa effects can be quite stimulating for the patient. I would recommend this strain in treating depression, some forms of anxiety (so long as the patient is experienced with sativa strains and strong concentrates), and other similar conditions.

Effects Rating: 4.10/5.00

Overall Rating: 3.87/5.00

The Curaleaf Jack Herer Distillate Vaporizer Cartridge would best be described as a “good” product; it resulted in an overall enjoyable medication experience.
